This option requires a new dongle modem that plugs into a computer USB port. If you have a network as well, you will need a dongle-enable router (eg Netcomm or 3) In outlying 3G areas a small external antenna may help. There is a map at http://www.exetel.com.au/files/hspa_maps.pdf - you are chasing a 2100 service.

Re ADSL, I've set up a heap of rural old f**ts' systems myself, and endorse Jasons remarks about the Dynalink combined modem/router/Voip adapter. It's a doddle to configure and this site has help pages for it. Exetel has them at a good price. Whatever ADSL solution you choose will be disconnected when you move, and a new connection will then be required - more $, unfortunately, but Telstra owns the wires. Figure this cost into your sums.

If you have never seen voice over the internet in operation, you simply plug whatever phone you use now into the (ATA) adapter socket. A cordless base station is the popular solution. This converts the phone's analogue signal into digital and sends it down your internet connection to Exetel. Exetel's phone contractor then delivers the call to its destination. If anything it is clearer than a normal phone. You will be assigned a number for others to ring you on (probably Geelong, but Melbourne is a possibility, even Brisbane if you like).

If you get ADSL1, which comes over a Telstra phone line, VoIP gives you a second line. Incoming calls on one, outgoing on the cheaper VoIP. The ATA box handles the switching, there is only one phone handset needed.
