Re: FTP upload speed very slow, and hogs connection

I've tried with both active and passive mode, and with command-line FTP and with a couple of different GUI clients, so I don't believe it's client-related.

FTP upload speed very slow, and hogs connection

My download speeds are acceptable, but FTP uploads are very slow. I get 20 to 30 KB/sec. Even worse, while the FTP upload is happening, other computers attached to the router can't even use the connection. Websites download very slowly or time out. Stop the FTP upload and everything's fine again. It...

Re: New home.exetel.com.au server now available for use

Main thing that's prompting my hesitation is the amount of power it would provide to one and all.
Well yes, but PHP provides all the power that Perl does, with less of the security. And PHP scripts execute by default, they don't even need to be chmodded.

Re: New home.exetel.com.au server now available for use

Now that the subject has come up, can I ask, yet again, why we can't run Perl scripts on the web servers?

I've never really got an answer which said why.

PHP's OK for some things, but when you know Perl it's no fun to be forced to write in PHP.

Off-peak 12 to 12, right?

This is a dumb question, but I was just trying to confirm that the off-peak rate applies from 12 midnight to 12 noon. I spent a bit of time looking, but I couldn't find it spelled out explicitly on the site. It's just that it used to be midnight to 7, and I couldn't find an email saying it had chang...

You are viewing this default web page because you have not yet updated your own index.html file. That particular message is because "index.html" is a kind of magic filename which behaves differently to other filenames. Put it this way -- if you go to "http://home.exetel.com.au/myrx7/myfile.html" yo...

Weird.

Maybe I deleted them. Even Exetel wouldn't mass-delete people's email addresses without apologising for it...

Well, perl is definitely not available. I asked a question about it and got an answer: http://forum.exetel.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=23811 -- well it's not really an answer, but it's confirmation. And I don't know what you mean by "the information about media files is listed in the "Setup Information" ...

It says I don't have any.

I'm talking about webmail specifically, not email addresses accessed through a client.

When I click on "webmail" all I can do is sign in.

Misleading web space setup page

I just looked at https://www.exetel.com.au/members/ftp_configure.php and it says that Perl is available on exetel members' personal web space.

As this is not true, I suggest you change that page!

It also doesn't mention the script which deletes media files every night. I think it should.

Webmail addresses I've set up and forgotten...

This is a bit dumb, but I set up a couple of webmail addresses (for sites I didn't trust not to spam me) and now I can't remember what they were ... Am I crazy or did there use to be a way to look up all the addresses you'd set up? I can't find it now. Also, Exetel webmaster please note: the "add em...

Thanks for that.

My question remains though -- why not?

Someone decided, at some time in the past, to allow PHP but not Perl?

Why don't we have Perl on the web servers?

This might be an old topic or a frequently asked question, but, why can't we use Perl on the web servers?

Whatever scripting trouble you can get into with Perl, surely you can get into the same amount of trouble with PHP?

I don't want to be rude about PHP, but I would always rather use Perl.
