Re: ZTE H268A security issue

It affects Busybox according to my reading. This is the stripped-down Linux interface you will find if you enter by telnet. Later infestations in the device attack controllers. The suggested fix for the system is a factory reset (which replaces the working system including Busybox) and password chan...

Re: VOIP using computer and headphones only?

I think your best option is another cordless handset. Then all handsets will be connected to the same VoIP account, and all will ring together. First to pick up gets the call. Only one at a time can ring out If you run a soft phone on the same account as the present phone you will have a problem in ...

Re: VOIP using computer and headphones only?

Is it possible to call VOIP from my computer Yes. I do it all the time, both from desktops (ADSL) and laptops and tablets (wireless modem or ethernet). Skype is a proprietary version of VoIP. The standard protocol used is known as SIP. You will need an account from a provider such as Exetel, which ...

Re: Can't FTP into webspace

FTP works for me on a simple terminal connection, and I also ran the gFTP GUI to a couple of sites. Have you tried without TLS?

Re: Can receive mails cannot send mails

There is a discussion of the dfferences between POP3, SMTP and IMAP at http://www.jscape.com/blog/smtp-vs-imap ... difference. To send email you need a client configuration to suit standard SMTP.

Re: Blocked email

,exe normally indicates a Win executable, but may also be something else on other systems. Look up Easy Doc Converter for an idea about getting a mini-php process running onto your system. What can happen is that malware picked up from unsafe software or wherever, like a short script, can put togeth...

Re: Blocked email

Malwarebytes does have a Mac version, which may be useful. Somehow you have let out the password to your address. Have you used the email account at some public wifi or similar location? To receive POP email requires the password, and also the email address, both being sent unencrypted, and this can...

Re: Outlook 2106 smtp issues

Another suggestion - go to the Outgoing Server tab, and check you have not ticked "requires authentication", or the log in button. SMTP email is extremely simple; you can do it from a DOS Prompt/terminal, and I often do if I don't want to save the message. I am guessing there's one of those annoying...

Re: What type of cordless VoIP phone to use on NBN?

That sounds like an error in the router hardware or software rather than a handset problem. The reboot cleared it. The VoIP call is being transmitted and received as digital internet data packets up to your router. The router has a section that "translates" this into a standard voice analogue phone ...

Just a thought - are you using an Exetel service? The SMTP server checks your IP address.

Re: Parental control on Exetel modem

You might have to look hard for a new device that has all the same features and VoIP. Bridging on the other hand isn't difficult. It involves leaving the modem function of the new one intact (that is, the line analogue to digital internet conversion) and turning off all other functions. When you do ...

Re: Parental control on Exetel modem

I don't know if this is provided for either, but it is a router function, so if it becomes necessary you could consider bridging the new modem to the previous router.

Re: Wi-Fi Modem Problem

Exetel helpdesk would have supplied your user name and password to log into Exetel's servers. They are filled into boxes in the config page. The router password is probably the default, "admin". The router wireless security procedure is explained at http://www.tp-link.com.au/faq-877.html Yet another...
