Re: Is something wrong today (chatswood area) ?

Sorry, forgot to post my sync speeds (which are unchanged) .

DSL Speed (DS/US) 15198/791 Kbps

Is there some kind of congestion at the Chatswood exchange?

Re: Is something wrong today (chatswood area) ?

I'm getting the same thing from the Chatswood exchange. Your current bandwidth reading is: 1.23 Mbps which means you can download at 157.55 KB/sec. from our servers. It was better earlier today, at around 6Mbps, but that's still not great for ADSL2. For reference, I was getting around 10Mbps a bit o...

Re: ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

Wow, I don't know what has just happened. The tech support guys emailed saying they have altered my line, can I please cycle router etc. Done so, and now I can't ping exetel.com.au! I can ping google.com, as well as ONE of the exetel DNS servers (220.233.0.4), but I cannot ping the other (220.233.0....

Re: ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

@Colgarv

Do your sync speeds reduce, or just your download speeds?

I may not have mentioned, but I'm on the Chatswood exchange, if that allows anyone to correlate experiences.

Re: ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

Yes indeed, and I'm very grateful for people like you who spend their own unpaid time helping others :) I have tried an isolation test (no change), as well as trying a few different modems (only slight changes in speed), and logged a fault with Exetel, but as I said, I thought I'd come in here and s...

Re: ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

I know it's the weekend, so I'm not trying to prompt replies, just thought I'd add more info to the situation, and try to clarify. At this moment, I am on my household's cable connection because the ADSL2+ is timing out to many webpages, including this one. Not sure why that is. The situation as bes...

Re: ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

Do you mean that my modem is fighting a losing battle? How can you tell what my upstream stats are? (apart from the modem information, but we already saw that that was wrong).

Re: ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

Thanks for the quick reply. I did as you suggested; 2 files from microsoft.com and one from apple.com yielded 87+161+81kBps=329kBps. So that's 336896 bytes/s, which is 2695168 data bits/s. With headers of <100 bytes and an assumed MTU of 1500 bytes, that's an efficiency of 93%, so I expect that my r...

ADSL2+ Download speed lower than sync speed

Exetel is investigating this issue, but I wanted to see if anyone else has any idea what could be causing my download speed to be so much slower than my sync speed (which itself is not that great!) This is a new ADSL2+ service, on the Chatswood exchange. The phone line is with Telstra. My modem stat...
