If you've a valid Exetel account (in your case, you've suggested you'll maintain an Exetel HSDPA plan), then you'll have a valid VOIP account, and should be able to use the Exetel VOIP on your new service (unless there's some port shenanigans from TPG or whoever). I've found G711-A Law and G711-U Law are much better than G729. I noticed a slight choppiness to G729 on my Billion 7401 VGP R3 before I switched over to G711 as my preferred codec.

I have a working 7401 VGP R3 and have had issues with inbound and outbound calls.

I have the same modem/router, and have been posting frequently about my issues with dropped calls. I noticed this same behaviour on an earlier firmware release when I put my PennyTel account details in during testing my issues. Have you got any line filters between where you connect your ADSL modem and the wall? This should be a straight unfiltered connection. Your post is extremely confusing, so please clarify. A couple of weeks after the upgrade, and I'm happy to say my issues are resolved. A week or so after installing the new firmware, and VOIP call stablity seems to have massively increased. We can now maintain inbound calls for at least a few minutes (I've called home to ask quick questions, and haven't had a dropout), and outbound to one of our recently troublesome numbers is fine...

I'm going to test my VOIP a bit over the weekend, and see if I've actually improved my performance. Part of me is starting to wonder if it's randomly related to my cheapish cordless phone...

I've just upgraded my firmware to 5.53.s5.dge , which has also been formally released on the VGPR3 product page http://au.billion.com/product/voip/fd_voip/bipac7401vgpr3.php . I need to test further, as I've had mixed, but better results. I called in from my mobile and hung onto a call for 5 minutes...

The dialtone is coming directly from your NB9, so it's up to it to generate it correctly. My Billion did the same, and you should be able to tweak the tone settings to get a more pleasing (expected) dial tone. So yes - that buzzing is probably your dial tone. Try something similar to whats below for...
