Re: 8192/384 Plan Parameters

Exetel only provide ADSL1 via Telstra - 8192 is also provided via Telstra. No ADSL1 services are provided via Optus. My confusion. I was on Optus bundled with phone line when in Sydney. Do you know if Optus/AAPT have any plans for extending ADSL2 to Ballina? After posting the above I read your Tels...

Re: 8192/384 Plan Parameters

I currently can only get ADSL1 1500/128 here in the Ballina/Byron area. I presume that is
because of the Optus infrastructure here.

If 8192/384 becomes available, I'd love to switch :) I did enjoy ADSL2 when in Sydney
and would love to return the good ole speedy days here in the regionals.

Re: 0.00%

My meter does show non-zero values now, but they apparently have not been updated lately:

"Your Usage From: 01-January-2010 (Updated at 2010-01-27 01:28:12)"

as read from the top of this page: https://www.exetel.com.au/members/home.php

It seems 20 hours out of date.

Re: 0.00%

My usage meters (current and history) are reading zero this morning.
I'm on ADSL1 in Ballina if that matters.

Re: VOIP over ADSL1

Since you live in Sydney, it is very likely you can get ADSL2. Yup, that was the plan when I was in Sydney ... very cost effective. (I've just updated my profile to Cumbalum). Up here in Ballina / Byron, only ADSL1 is available; and only rather expensive voice lines from Telstra and resellers are a...

VOIP over ADSL1

I'm living with ADSL1, which is fine for digital comms.

My voice is over a Telstra Budget Home Line for $21.00/month.

My question: can I use Exetel's VOIP over ADSL1?

And if so, would it be more economical once I ditch Telstra?

thanks,
rick

Thanks. ADLS1 is working fine using the ADLS2 modem.

Now, can anyone comment on the connection stats I posted above?
i.e. is my connection good enough to try for 8 Mbps down?
Or should I sit on the 1.5 Mbps?

cheers

Re: Ballina Area ADSL2

Find your current ADSL1 statistics in your modem's web interface. In particular, the line attenuation and noise /SNR margin. The capability of higher speed will depend on how low the attenuation is and how high the noise margin is, so post them and we can reply with some further comments. Here are ...

Re: Ballina Area ADSL2

my newer Netcomm NB5Plus4 ADSL2 modem should be backwards compatible with ADSL1. I'll give that a try and get some stats. I have connected the Netcomm NB5Plus4 modem. It seems to synch, but not connect to ADSL1. What modulation type, VPI and VCI should I setup to get this modem to connect to ADSL1?...

Dazzled wrote:6 km as the crow flies is probably up to 8 km as the cable runs, so you are a bit out of range for ADSL2.
I'm on 1.5 Mbps ADSL1. Given that distance, what are the chances of getting more speed by switching over to 8 Mbps on ADSL1?

Ballina Area ADSL2

Hi all According to: http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/viewexchange.php?Exchange=BLNA a few providers are supplying ADSL2 connections. Any idea if and when Exetel will support ADSL2 in Ballina and environs? Also: I am about 6 km north of Ballina. Could I expect "reasonable" ADLS2 speeds at that dista...

Re: 8192/384 Correct Modulation Types

ADSL1 modems are all capable of 8Mbps speeds Thanks. I'll look into upgrading and trying for more bandwidth. Final question: my neighbour is also on ADSL1 and can only download at 500 Mbps. Also, the 500Mbps you quite is a typo. Do you mean 500Kbps (i.e. sync speed) ? Or 500KB/s (i.e. browser downl...

Re: 8192/384 Correct Modulation Types

I am on ADLS1 1.5 Mbps, which is working fine and downloads at full speed. I would like to upgrade to 8192/384. My modem is a old Netgear DG 814. There is no setting for modulation type. Do one of you techies think that this modem is capable of the 8192 speed? I also have an idle NetComm NB5Plus4 th...

Re: Offpeak access block kicks in during onpeak

I am connected again, thanks. Could you please have someone proof read the usage.php page, correct the typos and fix it so that is actaully does what it purports to do? The access block kicked in again at the end of this month, today. Looks much better. And more to the point, it worked. I made my s...
