Re: New ADSL2+ plans for existing customers
For me the solution was simple. I churned to another ISP, where I pay less for a lot more. The churn also resulted in an unexpected bonus. With Exetel, my typical ADSL2+ uptime was in the 5-10 day range. With TPG, my connection has been up and fault free since 30 Dec 2013, so it's truly "always on" ...

Re: New ADSL2+ plans for existing customers
I just cancelled my service. Coincidentally, I've been with Exetel from 2007-12-17 to 2013-12-17. Exactly 6 years, to the day.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: New ADSL2+ plans for existing customers
The plans will be released when they are released. Fair enough. I've been with Exetel for many years and wasn't going to leave just because of a dollar or three over the course of a month. However, the TPG unlimited plans look too good to stay here at around $75-80/month for 50GB when I can get unl...

Re: New ADSL2+ plans for existing customers
My current plan is ADSL2-50 - that's 50GB for $47.50 + $20 line rental. http://www.exetel.com.au/broadband.php advertises 100GB for $29.99 + $20 line rental. Why am I paying $17.51/month more for less data and do not have the option to change my plan, even though I am out of the contract period? It...

Re: Exetel Notifications
I second that request. Each message should clearly specify the outage location and period (preferably in a consistent machine parseable fields) at the beginning of the body of the message. I would also suggest that staff pay a bit more attention to the dates being entered. There have been a few inst...

Re: Frequent drops and line noise.
That's back to front. Modem should have no filter attached; every phone handset / base station should have a filter.

Re: Lost dial tone corrected after line testing - Twice
I had a similar experience years ago, when I was with Telstra. Eventually they tracked it down to an issue at the exchange. Apparently a small bit of wire has fallen down on the contacts in the MDF and was intermittently shorting my line. This caused the line to be disconnected by a current limiting...

Re: Exetel Outage Thursday morning...
Are you on an AAPT tail? If so, there was an issue with them after the network issue, this was resolved around 11am. Yes, I am on an AAPT DSLAM. No Optus infrastructure at Northbridge AFAIK. Current uptime is about 2 hours. Here's hoping that things are now stable, I'd like to get back to uptimes m...

Re: Exetel Outage Thursday morning...
The pattern that I could spot was that if I got authenticated by Radius Server - mastic, the connection would go down very quickly again (mostly in 10 seconds, sometime up to 3 minutes). Radius Server - pistachio seems to be better behaved and I now have just over 10 minutes uptime I have no idea ho...

Re: Exetel Outage Thursday morning...
Services are most certainly NOT up. PPP connection is up and down every few minutes with incorrect username or password errors. Rebooting router doesn't help.

Re: Uploads
You can't "change" SNR or attenuation (basically the values measured in dB), short of physically replacing the wires. Both of these are the characteristics of the line and the devices connected to it. You can fiddle with parameters such as coding gain, which will basically trade error correction bit...

Re: Outage 23 Feb @ 13:45
iiNet have the same issue and flagged it as "Issue is believed to be related to a upstream routing issue."
Can't get from Exetel to Telstra, so I would not be surprised if this was a Telstra problem.

Being without Google doesn't bother me nearly as much as not having ssh access to work git server, the night before a major software release.

Re: Outage 23 Feb @ 13:45
Came back for a couple of minutes, then died again.
I saw a big pond user drop off irc a minute or two before me. Looking at Exetel traffic graphs, it looks like the outage is on multiple links. Both NSW Optus and NSW Verizon show a sharp drop off. Perhaps the internets are clogged?
