Ongoing speed and service issues.

I live just over 1Km from my Telstra exchange. I have seen my line manage a whopping 18Mbps linespeed and have tested download speeds of 16Mbps (for a maximum of 48hours) so before I get told about theoretical maximums etc please bear this in mind when reading this... I posted on the discussion boar...

I kind of figured as much, but it doesn't explain the downward trend (with no corresponding upswing the next day).

Re: Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

I'm really confused now… I have had a number of different emails from support telling me that I have reported line drop outs (I haven't) and that a profile has been put in place. JasonM's intervention produced a dramatic improvement in service for a day before it has all dropped back to what it was ...

Re: Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

Thanks David

THere is no time line as the samples were over the course of 24 hours and they become unreadable.

The data is from the Your Results tab of speedtest.net and I used Numbers 09 to graph.

Re: Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

OK at the risk of being really boring… The line speed has now dropped again and has gone from the 15444Kbps of yesterday to 2542Kbps 24 hours later and the connection is back to being sub optimal. 0001RY.jpg Graph is 24 hours of data taken from speedtest. I can forward the CSV file if that is helpful.

Re: Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

Line speed seems to have stabilised at 3734Kbps, but the speeds I am seeing from Speedtest.net is ranging from 693Kbps to 1218Kbps.

Re: Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

Hmmm my initial excitement of this morning has reverted to ho hum this evening.

What is a reasonable/sensible amount of degradation to expect from low to high demand periods? My speed is down to just over 11% of this morning's speed (which is about twice my speed last night).

Re: Bridged vs Half Bridged (AM300 & Airport)

Thanks for that.

Done that and now it all works splendidly. So my next question is…

How do I re-access the settings on the modem should I have to retest connections etc.?

Bridged vs Half Bridged (AM300 & Airport)

I have just reset my network to troubleshoot a speed issue and now can't remember the settings that I had before. I have a Linksys AM300 Modem/Router and an Airport Extreme (AIE). If I don't do any configuring then I get Double NAT errors on my AIE. The options I have on the AM300 are: Encapsulation...

Re: Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

Have put modem on an extremely short line to the telephone jack and reset it to be the router (instead of half bridge) and I have achieved 14Mbps at midday.

Thanks

Consistently Pathetic ADSL2+ Speeds

I am getting consistently atrocious speeds on my connection. I rarely get better than an average of 1.5Mbps (having once reached the dizzying speeds of 5.4Mbps - at 0349hrs). I have over time just written this off as being the result of living in a dense suburb, but on visiting a friend's apartment ...
