Thank you "Kavindas", It seems Authentication was the answer. Discovered an almost identical post from March 2012 where 'password' was the setting. Anyway, iPad now receiving & sending.

pop3 not responding
I have had previous problems with mail servers but this is a variation. My PC mail is working perfectly but my iPad (using the same servers) suddenly gave error message - The mail server "pop3.nsw.exemail.com.au" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct info in mail settings. The ...

Re: SMTP server settings keep changing
Thanks for the reply. I,m not using a mobile, all mail is on my Mac desktop. I have None selected for authentication. I'm not quite sure about "Where is the computer". Exetel is the only server listed. Is the problem with Apple's Mail system ?

SMTP server settings keep changing
Regularly when sending an email I get "Cannot send message using the server smtp.nsw.exemail.com.au. Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your smtp server settings in mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with system administrator. The server response was : relay ...

Re: pop3 server query
Thanks for the reply, I have erred, the pop3 and smtp server names do have "exemail" in them as you said, my apologies. Perhaps if the mail is still operating OK I should leave well enough alone and try the delete/reenter trick if any problems arise.

pop3 server query
Hi, I have an iPad with an exetel mail address that recently gave a message window saying unable to find pop3 server (pop3.nsw.com.au) and to check mail account settings. The settings were all in order and the iPad mail was being sent & received as normal. I checked the iMac account settings and not...

Re: 3G service on iPad
Thank you Stevec, how embarrassing, connect in lower case must have been the only APN I didnt try but it works....at last. It has been a steep learning curve (for an old bloke) but I now can connect with WiFi or 3G and can send mail from anywhere, the tricks being that on 3G I have to use the SMTP m...

Re: Nettcom NB5 Modem power interruption
Is this what you mean ? Afraid it all means nothing to me Doesn't mean much to me either. I must admit, apart from the "Couldn't increase MTU to 1500" messages, there doesn't seem to be any apparent errors in there. Is it possible to borrow / swap your modem for a friends temporarily just to test w...

Re: Nettcom NB5 Modem power interruption
Whenever there is a power interruption to my modem, when power is restored the ADSL light flashes for an hour or so and connection to the net is not available. I suspect this is not normal ? It shouldn't be necessary to use the paper clip reset button trick every time the modem temporarily loses po...

Re: Nettcom NB5 Modem power interruption
If you are referring to turning off the power switch, it is not normal. Reconnection is quite quick after turning back on. The trouble with the paper clip is you lose your config. Yes, it's whenever there is a blackout or the power inadvertntly turned off. I have been finding something else to do w...

Re: ADSL2 speed investigations one
Should I be getting about 8000 kbps ?? Based on your modem stats, yes. Your modem is negotiating a strong sync at around 9.5Mbps. Ordinarily this should be able to provide 7-8Mbps of throughput so your Exetel speed reading of only 671kbps is incredibly low. I think you should go straight ahead and ...

Not an essential part of fixing your speed problem, but you should distinguish between Java and Javascript. The latter is a language used for scripts to be executed inside your browser to dynamically form content to be displayed. A configured modern browser will contain javascript within its window...
