Re: Getting started with VOIP
It takes as long as it takes you to get the details into the modem. The provisioning takes about 3 seconds normally.

Re: Changing software on Huiwei E169 modem.
I've flashed at least 15 E169s with the Mobile Partner firmware and have yet to brick one
Alternatively, if you close the Optus program and open the Mobile Partner on your computer, it will work fine.

Re: Cannot access a wifi network
In the worst case, use the Wireless Key View utility at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_key.html to copy it from your computer. Note that the result this program gives is not always the plain text version of whatever you set the key to; but that doesn't matter.

Re: Transfer Your Current PSTN Home Number To Exetel VoIP
Sounds Promising...
No luck for me however - I received this error:
This service is probably not of any use to me then. (Not Armidale, Black Mountain.)
Do you have a list of enabled exchanges?
Cheers, Mike

Re: Changing Plans - VOIP Question/Recommendations
Having installed between 30 and 50 VoIP connections using Billion or Open Modems, I can say fairly safely that most of the time they're good. The three caveats: 1 - I always use G711A on them - it has a sharper sound to it than G729 but uses double the bandwidth. 2 - They seem intrinsically a little...

Re: Open 824RL VoIP connection
Haven't seen an auth request on Skype... PM your User ID if you like. It sounds like your modem is faulty - assuming your handset is connected directly to the Phone 1 socket on the back and it has a VoIP registration; then there should be a fairly distinct loud dial tone. The Line 1 light should als...

Re: Asus DSL-N11 issues
Re downloading stuff and dropouts - use a Download Manager such as 'downthemall' for Firefox or Free Download Manager so that if you are dropped while downloading drivers, etc; they'll resume. (I suspect newer versions of Firefox do this automatically, not sure.) Re. the ping - leave it running in t...

Re: Asus DSL-N11 issues
Not sure about the cutout problem. Perhaps try locking the modem in ADSL1 mode for a while. Re. the injured motherboard; perhaps go for a USB WiFi instead? Perhaps the lightning also injured one or more ADSL filters, or even the line itself. If you ping -t 220.233.0.4 does it die also when you disco...

Re: Voicemail SMS Alerts Not Working
If the email feature is still working, you could set your HSPA mobile to poll a mailbox for the messages. That won't fix the SMS problem, but might be a useful workaround.

Re: Asus DSL-N11 issues
Possibly; I've never used that model. It could also be possible that your PC's ethernet port was also damaged along with the modem as the path tends to be phone --> Modem --> PC --> Ground. If you have another computer, try attaching it and see if the problem persists; or from your current PC try a ...

Re: Copyright Theft - Jeremy Clarkson's View
Perhaps if Top Gear, like so many other shows, were to stream to the world with unskippable ads, this problem wouldn't exist. (At least, not for video.) I think many people download the show because they have no other way to get it; or because they don't want to wait for a TV network to show it a mo...

Re: Google Public DNS
Hmm, so perhaps I'm an oddball but I often use OpenDNS on new and existing customer connections simply for the automatic anti-malware component. And of course since Exetel's a static IP company it's a piece of cake to turn on a rudimentary porn filter for end users without having to touch their PCs....

Re: Open 824RL VoIP connection
Interesting
So, do you actually get the long flat VoIP dial tone? And if you do, does it go away as soon as you press the first key on the handset?
If you'd like me to log in to your modem and check it out, catch me on MSN michael@auzzie.net or skype cccmikey.

Not familiar with that particular model, but have done many similar. What's showing up under "VoIP Call Log" under the status menu. Do the numbers look correct? Cheers, Mike These are the settings in my 7404VGP http://lh5.ggpht.com/_NLoFolZ2mFo/SxT1AH388lI/AAAAAAAADdw/HL3Mi7o9yTs/s800/Fullscreen%20c...
