Re: Content Filtering Trial

We can also set the Whitebox up with a whitelist for commonly accessed URLs such as Youtube, and should they get added to the blacklist list either purposefully or inadvertently then the traffic would not route through the filter as the routes would not be advertised for these sites. This addresses...

Re: Content Filtering Trial

The reason I ask what has just been deleted, is according to the maker of the whiteboxes, Christian Sjöberg, there are specific arrangements written into the licence agreement preventing using the box to block anything other than child abuse pages. When Peter Mancer recommends Australian ISP's load...

Re: Content Filtering Trial

If you have a problem with any url being blocked then use the thread allocated to note the occurrence or log a fault in any other way you wish to do so. It's very simple. If you don't experience any such problem then......... If Steve's blog is correct and the blocked urls are illegal - & I take it...

Re: Content Filtering Trial

So, will you as a spokesman for Exetel please answer: 1. Which specific list is being used to monitor & filter Exetel customers? 2. Which services & protocols are being monitored? 3. Has Exetel already been monitoring & logging cusotmers in the filters 1st mode ie logging, without prior notificatio...

Re: Content Filtering Trial

Shouldn't an ISP have a moral obligation to protect the rights of it's users, for example the right to free-speech? This is not a discussion about what it right or wrong about the content filtering, the filter list, or our trial of it. You should use other forums for that - preferably those run by ...

Re: Slow ADSL2

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm stating the speeds correctly. I just did a test then and it is better than usual: 3.20 Mbps 3281.5 kbps So I can download at 410.19 KB/sec As I said, this is about as good as I ever get, but it doesn't stay at this level consistently. Even this is below what I expe...

Re: Improving Sync rate/ profile adjustment?

Given that the download frequency is 2.2MHz, it may be worth noting that something as stupid as sunspots could get at the bandwidth but for most improvements users should start with their computer and make sure it suits TCP/IP as well as possible. Then there is always the congestion on any part of ...

Re: Improving Sync rate/ profile adjustment?

I thought that 'line profile' here, set at the exchange end was basically a remotely set incremented noise profile ie the target SNR he was talking about can be set, an allowance made by the equipment to optimise its performance on an individual line as opposed to the actual characteristics of the ...

Re: Improving Sync rate/ profile adjustment?

Jason M (tagged aaNet rep) mentioned that with the then reported 12.1db SNR, & a line profile with a target SNR of 8db, he'd expect I should be able to to achieve the full 24/1 without problems, and still retain sync stability. JasonM was likely referring to the profile of the line, not the sync sp...

Re: Improving Sync rate/ profile adjustment?

G'day Mick, That's a great set of stats but I doubt that Exetel have the ability to push them any higher. You must live close to your exchange and have very good lines but anything less than living in the exchange, will always cause signal loss and a sown grade in bandwidth. If you would like to se...

Improving Sync rate/ profile adjustment?

Hi, new forum member, have been reading for a while, but first post. Before I start I just want to say we finally moved out of dialup in January 2009 & are very happy with Exetel. first off, I just want to make it clear that this doesn't fall into the category of dicky or disappointing line speeds &...
