My Google searches suggest that its maximum theoretical upstream speed is only 384Kbps, so what you're getting seems about right.granny1 wrote:I am using an E169 Dongle

You don't have anything near the antenna symbol. Are you sure that you have Optus coverage?
FWIW, I prefer MWconn as a UI.
No, I have been using G711A and u for years with Exetel. Well, I've learnt something. I'd taken everything that I'd read about G.729 being the only option for incoming at face value, and had never actually tried G.711a/u until a few moments ago. (Not that I want to use G.711 over my HSPA service. :...
I thought Exetel's VoIP only supported G.729 for incoming calls???sable wrote:Codec - use G.711ALaw as 1st pref and G.711uLaw as second with non-used for 3rd & 4th

GPRS.... In theory (bandwidth-wise) it should be fine but I don't know about latency over GPRS, could be a pain. When I first started playing around with mobile VoIP, I tried GPRS just to see what would happen. There was enough downstream bandwidth to support voice to the mobile, but not enough ups...
Depending on how light, WM A might work out cheaper.jabez wrote:We're looking at an Exetel WI plan for them. They only require internet for emails and light browsing.

OK, have the sip registering, but when I go to make a call via voip, it comes up with connection error. I am connected via exetel 3g at the time, but it still fails Assuming that the E65 is similar to the E63 when it comes to the inbuilt SIP client, did you remember to add the realm, etc, details u...
384/384 is plenty for VoIP, especially when using G.729 or some other low-bandwidth codec. For browsing on the handset on the go, it's enough for me. If I feel the need to go faster, and the situation suits, I can always take my netbook with me and use one of my 3G USB dongles (I have a second WM A ...
I've only had my E63 for a few weeks, but I like it. If only it could sync my Outlook e-mail, then I could replace my Palm Treo 500 completely. It was bad enough when I was carrying two 'phones around (work mobile and Palm); now I'm often carrying three. The E63 that I bought was locked to Vodafone ...
On my E63 I'm using the native SIP client for VoIP (with the utility installed that allows you to specify the codec, etc), ColbySMS for the few SMS's that I send (Exetel as first choice, at 5¢, with MaxoTel as a backup, at 8¢), and Nimbuzz only to gain access to Windows Messenger (the supplied clien...

I've had a Mobile 1 plan with casual data since about mid last year. I don't recall such a term or condition on it, but there is a similar condition regarding data usage on the WM A plan (and I now have two of those).
