Re: Overseas calls garbled

Garbled (like underwater sounds) can mean lack of bandwidth - at either end of the connection - or perhaps the wrong codec being used.

Congestion

I believe my ADSL2 connection is suffering from congestion. It synchs over at 5300 which is appropriate for the distance to the exchange, giving 500k+ download speeds. This lasts all day until after 6pm when the synch is fine but the download speed drops below 200k every night and sometimes to 100k....

Re: Dropouts in the rain

As a commentary that might be useful to others: I was offered a technician to come and check the line with a charge to me if nothing was found. As the line is fine in dry weather, except for perhaps 10 minutes per day, I calculated that I had a 99% chance of having to pay the call-out fee. I objecte...

Dropouts in the rain

I have occasional drop outs (maybe twice a day) where the snr drops to about 6. The modem (Billion 7800NL bought to fix the problem) usually recovers but sometimes requires a reboot. But when it rains the drop outs can become much worse with the snr dropping to 2 or 1. Rebooting then does not always...

Re: Slow as P2P

I tried Utorrent then Deluge last night but both gave about 270k download on the same list of torrents.

This morning, after a month of slowness, Utorrent was giving 450k on the same list. That is about as good as mine line will deliver.

Is there some factor other than the removal of the cache?

Re: Lowering attenuaton and SNR

I have a Billion 7300 that synchs 50% faster ( 6db) than my TP-Link TD8840 (12db) but the Billion drops out much more than the TP-Link so I use the latter.

If the call cuts out at the 30 second point each time then it is a setting in X-lite at your end.

Re: Unlimited ADSL2 Plans

I would certainly pick up an unlimited plan (from OT-100) for another $5 or perhaps $10. I would increase my d/l to perhaps double the current - but at rather marginal increased benefit. This would mainly be higher resolution content and running something like ABC24hours in a window. I would however...

Re: Can't make calls through X-Lite 4

My memory of this is returning.

I installed X-Lite 4 on Win7 but could not get it to work.

But X-Lite 3 works fine for me in Win7 but only using XP compatibility mode

Re: Can't make calls through X-Lite 4

Have you run X-Lite in XP compatibility mode?

That worked for me.

Re: Included Offpeak Downloads

When I applied for OT-100 about 4 weeks ago the off-peak was shown as 4am to 2pm but I now have 1am to 9am which is far less useful.

I am not too impressed and hope that the time will be extended shortly.

I am in Brisbane too - Narangba - and have been getting authentication drop outs for a couple of weeks.
