Re: Modem recommendations

Hi, I have been using a Billion 7404VGPX for 17 months with great success, .... apart from when I originally installed it, and that was because of my lack of knowledge in setting it up. As my setup is completely wireless ....using a Sierra wireless 306 USB modem the Billion and a External Antenna I...

Re: Price Increase For Out Of Contract Customers - Continued

Any update as to when the members facilities online will have a feature where we can port our existing VOIP number (mine was originally ported from PSTN) back to the PSTN line under the $60 OCV200 plan? Or is there some otherway to do it? cheers :) I requested the plan change through the Members fa...

Re: Modem recommendations

I'm looking for a replacement for my nb9w due to it's increasingly unreliable wireless connection. I've recently converted friends from an NB9W to a (gasp) Billion 7404VGPX. They made comment that the wireless now worked in their bedroom, where it didn't with the NB9W. I’ve also experienced several...

Re: Modem recommendations

I'm looking for a replacement for my nb9w due to it's increasingly unreliable wireless connection. Is it getting adequately cooled? Many wireless modems perform poorly when too hot. I've got it sitting by itself on a glass top so ventilation is as good as I can give it. having said that it does see...

Re: Modem recommendations

If necessary, yes. You'll see some access points listed at the sidebar of the site I referred to earlier for the Draytek. TP-Link is an affordable Chinese brand with good English documentation, Cisco is a US design. The purpose of these is usually to extend range (so secure it properly in the subur...

Re: Modem recommendations

any improvement in wireless connections Yes the range is much better than what the Netcomm was. You can also buy higher gain antenna. Thanks Mixer, I'll focus on a more stable wireless connection over speed. In this regards the separate wireless access point Dazzled mentioned would be a cheaper opt...

Re: Modem recommendations

Do you think a Draytek would help? Sync and download change was marginal from the Netcomm to Draytek. Got more improvement locating the unit at the first building entry and removing redundant cables and cheap ADSL filters. VOIP appears more stable ??? from when I was using a V210P. Thanks Mixer, Di...

Re: Modem recommendations

Have you looked at the Draytek Vigor 2710 range? There's an all-in-one there with wireless N. Quality, but hardly a giveaway, eg http://www.jmgtechnology.com.au/index.php?cPath=89_90_121 User astromo has put up a how-to for VoIP on this forum at https://forum.exetel.com.au/download/file.php?id=771 ...

Re: Modem recommendations

:D Billion make very good routers, but configuring their VoIP successfully in all-in-one units can be difficult. I was referring to the frequent help requests. Their DMZ implentation can be funny too as Jokiin reminded us today. I usually equip my friends and non-tech family with simple Dynalink RTA...

Re: Modem recommendations

Don't chuck out the V300. They work well and even with a new one you might need a spare. They were superseded by the excellent V210p and V220. The Dynalink RTA1046VW otherwise ticks all boxes, is dead easy to configure and is reasonably priced from on-line dealers. Note that no modem/router/ATA uni...

Re: VOIP voice quality

I have Exetel Naked adsl2 with exetel VOIP. Netcom NB9w with a Uniden WDECT cordless phone. I can hear calls fine at my end but am getting complaints that i cannot be heard at the other end. Sometimes calls have to be terminated. First priority codec is G729, Second G711u and third priority G711a. C...
