Re: Why does it cost more to change than to get a new plan?

I appreciate there is a cost to process plan changes, but how does a plan *change* cost $50, while it only costs $20 to process a completely new application, post a SIM, and activate the service. That seems counter-productive. I would have thought it would be easier for you to move people off old p...

Re: Torrent traffic shaping?!?

Peteru, I wasted some time checking out yoshac's code at http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/telnet.console just to get into the Busybox shell to do a spot of monitoring. Now I know why I won't be buying one of these. Thanks for your info. FYI, I have a 3800, and first thing I did after I verified ...

Re: moip problem

If your are using the handset via WiFi behind a ADSL modem which already has VOIP setup, then maybe you need to use a SIP port other than 5060 on the handset, as you would have a clash with the modem's use of 5060. Further, you may need to setup virtual server/port forward for the new SIP port to ge...

Re: Thinking of ordering Exetel HSPA

Fixed IP is mostly irrelevant. While premium seems to be faster than standard, even if you get good signal where you want to use the service, if there are too many other people contending for the same service then you won't be happy. I've had a premium and now have a standard because voice is afford...

Re: Ubuntu Mirror Not Updating

Can't really agree with "excellent" when I can't use rsync. Since I can't rsync from the exetel mirror, I probably do 20GB-100GB a month to another mirror that does allow me to use rsync, so I can maintain my own debmirror. Why not use debmirror with http? It's how our mirror gets generated. debmir...

Re: Unlimited ADSL2 Plans

There are continual instances of congestion on Telstra exchanges but they are of, relatively, short duration - usually. Similarly Optus has been pretty prompt in resolving any back haul provisioning issues that occur. Im thinking of two newcastle area exchanges, telstra and optus. One, mine, of whi...

Re: Unlimited ADSL2 Plans

While Exetel may have the numbers to support unlimited that doesn't fix the current ongoing problem with backhaul under provisioned by Telstra/Optus/AAPT/etc, and unlimited will only make this worse. Maybe the transition to NBN will make this better, but that is not a short term fix, and NBN is prob...

Have you tried telling them that your conversation fee is $100/10 min or part there of, and you only accept cash up front?

Re: Desperately waiting for Virgin to Port mobile number

Glad I didn't have your experience. I did a Virgin Postpaid/Exetel port some months ago for my mum. After she got the SIM, I did the web site activation of the Exetel SIM around lunch time, and told her that when the Virgin SIM stopped working, to swap the SIMs. Don't recall if it took a day or two ...

Re: Mobile Meter Page

Since you don't mention the phone, I can't be too specific, however ... Most phones have call/duration counters which will provide you with a rough estimate as long as you clear them at the beginning of the billing period. If you use this make sure you can auto clear the counters, or set an calendar...

Re: Mobile Calls Regularly Drop Out

Given they are mobile calls, I don't think Exetel gets involved in the call at all, they would just get the call details uploaded for billing. I expect Optus does all the call handling. Lots of bars of reception just means there is a strong signal, it doesn't say anything about congestion, and calls...

Re: 13, 1300, 1800 numbers

I expect to depends upon what plans the telco will sell to Exetel at a particular point in time. I don't expect Exetel has a big enough volume to have much negotiating power to get the telcos to tailor make plans to suit Exetel. I expect the telcos define plans they are willing to sell and at what p...
