Yeah well this cable was already cut and re-joined at the same point and I used the same connectors as telstra had used but simply ran a new piece of cable as it was the only way I could be certain if it was a cabling issue. Got your ticket to do the work? Yes = no fine. No = possible fine. Read th...

Here's how the set up goes. There is a cable that runs from the street to above my front door at which point there appears to have once been some kind of junction device however it looks very old and there is nothing connected to it, in or out. Instead the cabling is joined directly to another cabl...

Earlier today I was getting 500KB/s from Microsoft.com, now I'm getting 50KB/s. =\ Interestingly enough I believe my connection was fine last night at about 3am (Not sure what it was like from 12am up to that point in time though). Do a ping test and check your packet loss. Do this when you're not ...

I'm also hoping the Netcomm V431 Smartvoice Gateway is a real commercial grade product. Although to take advantage of the extra quality, I'd probably need business grade DSL and VoIP. Which might not be a bad idea. Like you though, I'm not sure I can afford it. Its not about affording it - ...

Instead of the Netcomm V440 what about the V431 Smartvoice Gateway? sltech.com.au have it for $537.90 and it comes with 3 FXS + 1 FXO + 4 LAN. Which is closer to the configuration in your OP I think (If I have my FXS & FXO around the right way). Hi Mike, You do have your ports around the right way ...

Hmm, indeed ... One of the reasons I'm thinking of the NB9W, is the ability to have two phones connected, with separate VoIP settings for each. I'm kinda hoping I can have one port that I use for the VoIP line, and the other with straight PSTN. This keeps the wiring a bit tidier, rather than have t...

The one thing that I don't know about - is what happens on a V300/NB9W when the PSTN rings, when you are on a VOIP call? Does the device give a busy signal? Is there a system for switching between the two calls? I'm wondering this myself - I'm looking at getting an NB9W for when I change to ADLS2+,...

Actually, I'm probably going to go with the SPA3102 (to get the PSTN line onto the Trixbox) and also provide one ATA. If I need more I'll either get another SPA3102 (if I get a second phone line to run dedicated ADSL+VOIP on) or a V200 if I just want to add more ATA's.

The Netcomm V440 is a great box.
Hi James,

That it is, its just a little pricey, and I don't think I'll need 4 ports.

Space isn't a great concern, and it makes more sense to go with 2x V200's than one V440 - its a saving of over $100.

Never had a problem with the Netcomm v300 I bought from Exetel. However, no idea on the 1300/1800 switching.... Have never played with dialplans etc, I just type ## myself if I want the pstn phone line, otherwise everything goes via voip. Great unit though, has paid for itself many times over. I kn...

Many here understand humans need to do more to protect other critters. This is an ISP savvy customer community.... how do we do something really effective? why not..... Use our web skills to change public sentiment in Japan re Killing Whales? i.e. a respectful, non-racist "attack" ... Bugger that. ...
