Re: ubuntu help?
hi i think this must have been where i've fallen over-in the adding of the repository. i'm not sure i really understand what the page is asking me to do. do i: a) execute in the terminal the "Any Ubuntu Release and keyring" only? or as well as b) Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope? (which is the version ...

if these kids are out of control online, then try monitoring their usage yourselves. the internet is not a babysitter.

Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
clearly a lot of people replying aren't reading anyone else's replies, as if they did they'd soon realise automated scheduling is your friend. initially i didn't like the idea, but now i think it'll make almost no difference to me. i worry that it will mean early afternoon browsing will be slower as...

Re: playing dvds on linux using VLC
i'm not really after ripping software per se as i already have some that works ok - but the irony that i will have to rip some highly protected dvds to merely watch them them is not lost on me.

Re: playing dvds on linux using VLC
thanks for your help - this has been the most frustrating thing! but the most frustrating part is it seems now that the dvd i was trying to play has some kind of super protection death ray attached to it. i have tried two other dvds, one with no encryption (bang-worked straight away) and a dvd i kne...

Re: playing dvds on linux using VLC
this is the closest i could find to my issue (though it still doesn't get it quite right). http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=50283 they go on to say that "vlc doesnt work like powerdvd". it seems i have been mislead about this program. is it or is it not media playing software? it seems...

Re: playing dvds on linux using VLC
i just did a complete remove of vlc (including config files) and reinstalled via the command line suggested in the ubuntu help - absolutely no difference whatsoever. why would the program simply just kill itself? is there logging i can turn on? i havent been able to find any helpful looking referenc...
