Outage 23 Feb @ 13:45

It looks like routing outside of Exetel (at least for me, in Sydney) is broken as of about 13:45 on 23 Feb 2012.

Can't access anything except for Extel servers.

Anyone else seeing this? Any status updates on this?

Re: Torrent traffic shaping?!?

Just looked it up and it looks like your Netgear router has a fixed limit of 4096 NAT sessions. There is no definitive information on the timeouts for various protocols, which will make a big difference to your BT config. Start with a small number of connections and then try increasing the limits un...

Re: Torrent traffic shaping?!?

I don't think that the router (Netgear WNDR3700) is the issue as it is about one year old. The age of the router is not necessarily a good indicator of it's capabilities. It tends to boil down to the firmware configuration and available memory. The 64MB of RAM on the Netgear isn't too bad, but the ...

Re: Torrent traffic shaping?!?

Your symptoms are indicative of a router with a limited NAT lookup table and a long(ish) TTL on expiring NAT entries. For example, Billion 7402VGP routers can't handle more than ~1,500 NAT sessions and have a TCP timeout of 1800 seconds and UDP timeout of 120 seconds. Something like an Asus RT-N16 w...

Re: Unlimited ADSL2 Plans

Any updates on if/when such plans may be available? I'm contemplating an upgrade/update from NF/21BYOLINE and would be interested. As far as I can tell, my exchange (Northbridge) only has AAPT or Telstra infrastructure. To be honest, a 20GB plan would be plenty during most months, but it would be ni...

Re: Incorrect usage meter

I reported the same problem , before I found this thread. No response from Exetel to the post or the ticket I raised. I wonder how long this has been going on and how much I've been incorrectly charged over the months. -1 for confidence in Exetel billing. That's on top of fictitious charges for 15 s...

Incorrect usage notifications.

I received an 80% usage notification at 6:00 today, which I believe is in error. I checked the online usage monitor and it lists peak usage for 14 Jun 2011 as Upload: 1045.77 MB and Download: 2521.40 MB. This can not possibly be right, since my off-peak period is 12pm-12am and so far all of 14 Jun h...

Re: $20.00 A Month For Full Service (Real) Telephone Line Re

I've been contemplating a switch from NF/21BYOLINE to OT-20 or OT-100, which are both available to me in the user facilities. However, I'm not sure if that is even possible. As far as I know, my exchange (Northbridge) does not have Optus infrastructure. I believe I am connected to the AAPT/iiNet DSL...

Re: Formatted e-mails from Exetel

The problem is with the headers that the email contains. There are at least three possible fixes: 1) Delete MIME headers and send the email as a legacy plaintext message. 2) Add the correct MIME headers to inform the email clients to treat the message as plain text. 3) Fix the existing headers to no...

Re: Gentoo mirror limits number of connections

Much, much better now. I deleted a few hundred smallish files and a few large ones and got portage to do a fetch run. So far it's going great with most requests being serviced by the Exetel mirror somewhere in the 1.22-2.04 MB/s range. There were a few 404's, but no rejected connections. Thank You! ...

Re: Gentoo mirror limits number of connections

I still get connection refused messages pretty early during the emerge process: --2011-05-03 00:42:18-- http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/gentoo/distfiles/gnuconfig-20110202.tar.bz2 Resolving mirror.exetel.com.au... 220.233.0.51 Connecting to mirror.exetel.com.au|220.233.0.51|:80... connected. 19 file...

Re: Gentoo mirror limits number of connections

The speed of your connection is annoying. :) I can live with the speed of the connection - no need to make adjustments there. (Coincidentally, I just had an ADSL drop out after 234 hours of uptime, but it came back up at 20172300 bps) I thought that perhaps I could do something from this end...

Re: Gentoo mirror limits number of connections

If there are any more changes that you'd like me to test, it would be good to get them done before noon, so that I can test during off-peak because I'm currently at about ~95% of my usage. 8)

Re: Gentoo mirror limits number of connections

I found a whole bunch of smaller files to delete and refetch... The first 19 files downloaded OK, but after that I started getting "Connection refused" again. Re: Gentoo mirror limits number of connections

Thank You. I'll be able to retest again once there are more Gentoo updates to fetch, which will probably be in the next 24-48 hours. Alternatively, I may just delete a whole bunch of files locally and refetch them during the off-peak period. Either way, it'll probably be another 20 hours before I c...
