Re: Possible New ADSL2 Plans For New Financial Year

This is exciting news. Optus adsl2+ is cheap but simply not great, not for me anyway. I'm willing to pay extra for a more reliable provider. The only problem is whether fast churning is feasible.

As I said, the graph is not giving realistic readings.

But based on my own subjective experience, internet does feel better today.

Re: Slow ADSL 2 speeds

I think speed might be better today, definitely not worse.

But there's something wrong with the optus adsl2+ network graph, which is not giving realistic readings.

Re: Slow ADSL 2 speeds

At the moment we see an anomaly in that since we did the upgrade there is less user traffic being carried to Optus ADSL2 users than before we did the upgrade and that would result in you/me personally as a user and some thousands of other ADSL2 users seeing performance degradation (collectively we ...

Re: Slow ADSL 2 speeds

Has Exetel actually commented about the decreased bandwidth for the optus adsl2+ link? The timing (started on the 1st of this month) suggests the change was initiated by Exetel. Do we know why?

Re: Slow ADSL 2 speeds

Look at the optus adsl2+ link. For some reason bandwidth has been reduced since Thursday.

Call card voice quality

I've been using Exetel's calling card service since late last year. Voice quality had been excellent compared to other calling card providers but lately voice quality has been slowly deteriorating (service becoming too popular?). Today we got a severe lag that made normal conversation rather difficu...

I'm not familiar with the numbers before the change, are people downloading less now?

Thanks for the email. That would explain what I was experiencing. I'm in Sydney though.

Seems fine at the moment.

Yeah that's quite unusual. For me http is always faster than p2p at any time of the day, which is consistent with Exetel's stated policy.

I have to say my speed during the weekdays this week had been pretty good though.

We have now removed the Net Enforcer from one third of the total IP bandwidth completely and removed it from the other 2/3 from 2 am to 6 pm. Oh that would explain the sudden jump in my http download speed. Normally I get less than 5K/s, but last offpeak I was getting 20K+. Obviously NE previously ...

I authorised the upgrade of the Optus-Exetel ADSL2 link to eliminate that as a possible cause and it was done 48 hours ago and has, as predicted, made no impact as it wasn't the problem.... Maybe the timing is purely coincidental, but I think it's made a difference for me (probably the optus link r...

Can lots of heavy users across different ISPs connected on the same exchange cause a significant bottleneck? I've often wondered about the same. You would think that the system should work in such a way that each ISP gets what they've paid for, but who knows, I haven't seen any ISP talking about th...
