Re: Price Increase Of $5.00 per Month On All Old ADSL Plans

Best value? But the costs keep rising! I was on 12 gig / $45, now I pay $53 for the same thing AND we lost free SMS AND free calls ages ago. So that's like another $5 of value gone. I have to swap to a cheaper plan with less download to get back to my original price.

Re: ADSL2 Plan Changes

As long as the shaping includes a limit to concurrent downloads, then I like it. If ishaping DOESN'T prevent a P2P downloader from having 100+ open connections then it wont do much to un-bottleneck a crowded exchange - therefore kinda pointless to us users because the heavy downloader will still be ...

Re: ADSL2 Unlimited Plans (For Exetel Users Only)

I honestly can not get my head around why someone would need free SMS' from their ISP - anyone who isn't on a mobile cap of some description is selling their dollar short. It seriously makes no sense to me that a few free SMS' actually wield any value... they just don't??? voip calls and faxes, may...

Re: ADSL2 Unlimited Plans (For Exetel Users Only)

The only people who want unlimited plans would be the ones who download a lot, which degrades the network for the rest of us. I don't like unlimited at all, unless it is just a rebranding of the current 3x average usage system. I'd prefer attracting more "normal" users than attracting "heavy" users ...

Re: Latency increase across the board

I think we're more concerned with it working as effectively as possible. If solving the problem speeds up the basic operation of the network, it will benefit everyone.

Re: Latency increase across the board

It is half better, but not fully back to "normal" pings.
I get 46ms (35ms with fast latency), still 15ms above normal.

Re: Latency increase across the board

we know ;)

If you are in the hunter region, I think it might happen to you too soon.

If you are not on Optus and in the Hunter region, I'm not sure why you were slow before though.

Re: Google Public DNS

So that means using non-exetel DNS is a bad idea if you are ever blocked without expecting it. Yep. A workaround might be to allow DNS for blocked users, or redirect all DNS requests for blocked users to our DNS server. If you can override a user's DNS servers, then yes that would be almost undenia...

Re: Google Public DNS

Yes - because when you are blocked, you can't reach the greater internet - and therefore the DNS servers won't resolve (such as using OpenDNS for example). Of course, if you had your own DNS server set to lookup directly, and had a record for blocked.exetel.com.au (and the addresses stored were cor...

Re: Google Public DNS

Isn't Exetel DNS needed to handle the block pages for over usage?
