Re: Modification To 'Shaping' Option

I like many others like to thrash what's left of my quota for the month towards the end, and I'd hate to come back and see my speeds still at full speed and Exetel trying to charge me $$$.

As has been said, the simplest and best system would be to fix the current model to actually shape a user.

Re: Migration Path For AnyPhone Plan Users

Although I don't have this 'anyphone' service I must say I really am impressed at the effort exetel would be willing to go to to avoid downtime to the user (wow a hell of a lot of 'to's there lol)

It's not often we see this kind of care put towards customers from any business... let alone an ISP lol.

Re: New Customer Referral Scheme

Damnit I'll have to try hard to get someone to sign up soon lol.

I was waiting to finally take advantage of the awesome scheme but it doesn't look too positive now....

I guess the credit scheme would work?

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

I don't use Usenet and I suspect most people have never heard of Usenet. That is typically what I'm saying. There need be no such incentive. It is not Exetel's responsibility to force users to use one protocol, server or mechanism over another; this is the user's choice and responsibility. Remember...

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

Once again, if they're practically the same they won't be bothered to move from one to the other lol.

There needs to be some kind of incentive for users to make the move other than security which most don't really care about =/

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

The usenet idea sounds very sweet, if it is an extra feature of having Exetel. Imo, the best way to do it would be to make it so that the usenet access is for free, but the downloads do count towards your quota. If you do it the other way, which is charging for usenet but not counting it for usage,...

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

I meant neither are illegal lol.

Thats like saying 'walking on the road is as illegal as talking'. I'm not implying either are illegal, its just a poor choice of words and phrasing :P

I can edit if you like?

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

If Exetel could offer an unlimited Usenet account below A$15 a month I would take it up. If the traffic didn't count towards quota, or was discounted (eg 2GB Usenet counts as 1GB quota) this would make the deal even sweeter. As previously noted several Australian ISPs already offer a local Usenet s...

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

I'm not sure of any of the costs involved unfortunately =/ But it may be something to take a look at, who knows. I'm sure if exetel were able to make all the States peer with PIPE (if exetel aren't already... I'm in NSW and only seem to peer with NSW) and delivered the data from a Usenet box in Sydn...

Supernerd has one now, and from what I can tell they haven't been sued yet =/

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

I haven't done anything wrong :(

People keep saying not to use Bittorrent... but its free and easy... most usenet services aren't free.

The letters are obviously because of bittorrent and its way of transferring data, Hosting a Usenet service would do away with lots of issues associated with this.

Re: Stealing Other People's Property

Perhaps exetel could provide a usenet service for free to its customers then?

Would keep as much data internal reducing the costs of international bittorrent traffic... and would also stop those pesky issues.
