Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Sorry, but I still can't see why, if they only take what no-one else wants anyway. The heavy downloaders so far have not depleted the excess bandwidth, as far as I know. Of course, as you said, I'm only a customer and don't really even understand exactly what you mean by cross subsidies. If you mean...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Bruce, perhaps you could show a little good faith in Exetel management. I have great faith in Exetel. Sorry if that's not clear. You make statements that Exetel could make profit by competing for a leecher userbase That's not what I intended to suggest. Rather, that having a small percentage of hea...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Do you really think we are so stupid we don't know how to interpret the figures we generate from second to second to operate the business for the past almost seven years? I certainly don't think you, or rather Exetel is stupid. I made this clear in an earlier post. (Just a little cunning, perhaps) ...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Its simple - it takes the cost of providing the services used in June versus the cost of providing the services in May - it cost $50,000 less in June. If you’re referring to the total cost of services to all users, then the figure would be influenced by many factors, such as the ever decreasing cos...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Regarding the ungrateful customer that Gabriel8 refers to: Why did that customer think the off-peak period was unlimited? Doesn’t Exetel’s pricing page make it very clear to everyone that it’s not unlimited? Well, er… actually, um… apparently it doesn’t (even after the recent changes). The reason I ...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Now that I’ve had time to digest what you seem to be saying Corey, I think I might be starting to understand. Putting it in my words: Although “leecher plans” could be profitable, the excess bandwidth available would be used up by a relatively small number of accounts, so the profit and therefore be...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
By having the limit "soft" it makes people rethink whether they should download copious amounts of stuff. The point is that the pricing page indicates no limit at all. So the prospective customer can only guess what he’s signing up for. How can that be right? I haven’t seen this situation on any ot...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Thanks for your reply Corey. First let me say I agree that you’re a reasonable person and you do treat people with respect. That is always appreciated. Perhaps I should be more specific regarding the point I’m trying to make: Since the “uncounted off-peak downloads” statement is on Exetel’s pricing ...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Since ForumAdmin is unable or unwilling to add anything further, perhaps someone else can understand the question I'm asking and be courteous enough to answer? Any reasonable person would assume that if downloads in that period are not counted towards the plan's allowance, then any amount could ther...

Re: ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Thanks for your reply.
So, how much can be downloaded between 2am & 8am then?
If it's the total usage for each 24 hour period that's counted, then what is the purpose of mentioning the 2-8am period?
By the way, I can't see where the statement says anying about PEAK time.

ADSL2 Off Peak Downloads
Regarding the latest ADSL2 plans (eg: OTA with phone line & AAA BYO phone line) Referring to the following statement on your pricing page for the above plans: " * Downloads between 2 am and 8 am do not count towards your included plan allowance from 1st June 2010 " Can you please confirm that the st...

Re: Off Peak Period Change
Exetel has always been the cheapest ADSL service I could find, but that's no longer the case. I've very easily found a cheaper company: Spin Internet. They offer unlimited downloads from 2am to 9am at 1500bps for the same price, and they also include a free dial-up service, useful as a back-up servi...

Re: Change to AUP - Section (d)
I wonder if Exetel has considered whether it would be possible, practical or helpful to shorten the off-peak time period just for heavy downloaders after they've exceeded a pre-determined limit. That way the "wasted" bandwidth could be made use of whatever time it's available. The heavy downloaders ...

Re: Change to AUP - Section (d)
Dear ForumAdmin, Can you inform us whether Exetel intends to frequently vary the '3 x average usage" to perhaps "2x" or "1.5x' as required in order to limit bandwidth usage at unpredictable times? (if it's not still on the drawing board) If so, won't this scare customers even more? If not, then coul...
