Re: New HSPA Plans

[Since my original posting was inadvertently deleted by normally benevolent forces, I am replying again with a somewhat different reply] Because it is expected that some percentage of packets will be lost between the cell tower and the laptop, mitigating the effect of a lost packet can assist throug...

Re: Forum re-validation after post submission

Maybe one of our site admins can ask a developer? Failing that, i suppose one of us Exetel customers can always open a ticket. It is a bug after all.

Re: Telstra HSPA

Hey would be great if exetel could get Telstra HSPA Because Optus HSPA not fast enough to use MOIP in my area :( everything else works fine If your mobile is not Telstra flavoured, it may not support 850MHz the frequency Telstra use for NextG. On the other hand, you might have the Telstra flavour o...

Re: Using Plan for laptop and mobile

No worries. I forgot about the $0 Exetel mobile plan until somebody reminded me about it in another forum. My current prepaid mobile provider is probably even better in most respects but I have reservations about recommending it. I should also have mentioned the Exetel business HSPA plans for those ...

Re: New HSPA Plans

So I see there is only one pay-per-MB plan now... This is data only, right? Are the (actually usable Optus based) phone plans completely gone now? No, quite the opposite, every device gains the ability to make calls whether it can do so or not. Interestingly, some wireless broadband modems includin...

Re: Using Plan for laptop and mobile

Yes, you can use the one SIM, but you might find one of the Exetel mobile plans better value if you don't expect to use much data and are happy to stay on the Voda network. You might also be interested in knowing that the (no longer available to new users) Exetel computer HSPA plans can receive call...

Re: General question: Instant payment

Yes, automatic debit to a credit card resolves many of the issues that otherwise make the current Exetel system less than satisfactory to everyone apart from Exetel, if you're prepared to wear the additional cost, but not all of them. There's still the security issues with credit cards for example, ...

Re: General question: Instant payment

But this still requires some calculation and guesstimation. If one is a direct debit (rather than credit/debit card debt) customer one has the possibility of seeing ones invoice at least one day before the debit is applied to their account due to the delay in the processing of these transactions. If...

Re: General question: Instant payment

Hi Klass, To start with your conclusion first: I don't see the point in Exetel changing their accounting systems and billing processes to allow people to pay as they want, even if it does "cost" in lost customers. Well so long as Exetel management sees the point, it depends on how many new customers...

Re: General question: Instant payment

Your aversion to direct debit or credit card debits seems strange in the 21st Century - they are the only efficient, and easily the lowest cost, methods of making monthly payments. If direct debits had the security and user control we have the right to expect of any system operating in the 21st cen...

Re: General question: Instant payment

Sorry, I hope I didn't touch a raw nerve. I interpreted your earlier response to mean that it was difficult to modify your accounting system to accept pre-payments which didn't sound correct to me rather than you having business and account reasons for not wanting to do so. Thanks for the background...

Forum re-validation after post submission

I take long enough to write a post that it looks like my cookie expires and I'm forced to login in again after I press preview/submit. No particular problem there, except after I login it doesn't return me to my scribble, rather it looks like all those carefully chosen words have been lost, Fortunat...

Re: General question: Instant payment

The short answer is that it's complicated - both from a processing viewpoint and, especially, an accounting viewpoint.... Would you mind elaborating slightly on this? I can understand if your software might fall over if it receives a payment that it isn't expecting, but from a accrual accounting po...

Re: New HSPA Plans

It would be interesting to hear the experience of users with Opera Turbo on HSPA services. (It is a setting in Opera v10.* - on/off icon is at the bottom). I do use it on HSPA and have had mixed experiences with it. It would sometimes be very good and sometimes hang or corrupt requests. I assume th...
