Re: Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband starter kit and Exetel SIM

I use an Exetel SIM in mine, with an APN exetel1 OK. I will be receiving an Exetel 3G sim (WM A plan) in a few days. I'll try that and report here. Tried it with the Virgin SIM that came with the E1762. I had a bugger of a time with trying to get it to work. So I gave up as a lost cause and put my ...

Re: Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband starter kit and Exetel SIM

So your is the same as mine. And you say you can just plug yours in, select it in Network Manager, and it connects and works to Virgin (optus) 3G fine? What APN are you using? I have tried VirginInternet and VirginBroadband. I have upgraded NM to the latest ppa version and still no go. I see the de...

Re: Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband starter kit and Exetel SIM

Gave up on linux and have been using in my wife's PC with ICS to share about the house. Works fine. Do you mind doing a "lsusb" and telling me what your device is identified as? Mine is: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 12d1:1001 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E620 USB Modem The product id (1001) seems to be ...

Re: Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband starter kit and Exetel SIM

What problems are you having? NM just gives up immediately with a "device not enabled" error. I think this modem is too new for the karmic kernel and needs a usb-modeswitch hack to swap it from storage device to modem device? I've tried this but failed. My Virgin branded device seems to have a diff...

Re: Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband starter kit and Exetel SIM

My Virgin E1762 has only been used in my Netgear 3G router or in my Ubuntu (linux) box. But I imagine that the procedure would be the same as the Optus E169. Hey Need2No, I picked up a Virgin E1762 today but can't get it to work with my up-to-date ubuntu karmic laptop. Any tricks you can suggest? I...

Re: Connection Getting Reset

The first thing I do when I have problems with my Naked service is - 1. Unplug everything from the phone line, then plug in a telephone hand set (prefer a corded type). 2. Lift the hand set and listen. I expect to hear a busy tone. If I hear nothing I advise Exetel. 3. I also listen if there is any ...

Re: Exetel MoIP

I've installed the MoIP application on my Nokia N95 phone (latest Nokia firmware). 1. When I try to call a PSTN (Telstra) number (9nnnnnnn or 029nnnnnnn), a message comes up as "Forbidden". 2. If I use 6129nnnnnnn, I get a "Not Found" message. 3. I can call a 13nnnn number it connects OK but the voi...

Are the Virgin/Vodafone modems etc not locked to their networks? Or is it ok because they use the Optus network?
The Virgin E1762 that I purchased prior to Christmas was only locked to Optus.

Re: Home Renovation/Short Term Moves - Best ADSL Option?

My house is going through renovation at the moment and I have to move out in less than 2 weeks (to a nearby suburb). Since the renovation work is probably going to take around 6 months, I am looking at the best option to get myself connected at the property I am moving to, and then re-connect the s...

Re: Incoming call issues

Ok, cheers mate. Do I mail Optus or exetel? Also, what should I say roughly to get them to fix it (versus going through standard T1 support mails)? Its weird that it used to be OK but isnt anymore, I guess someone pressed the wrong button somewhere then? Also include a link to this thread. May save...

Dick Smith, Tandy and Target. Most had the E169 so I had to shop around until I found a shop that had the E1762.

need2no, which shop had the E1762E? "If you require Exetel to provide a modem then you can (on the order form) order a Huawei E160e modem at a cost of $95.00 or a Huawei E1762E at a cost of $165.00 on a zero month contract." http://www.exetel.com.au/residential-hspa-pricing.php Seeing as my two fri...

Re: Virgin PrePaid Modem (E169) with Exetel SIM

It all worked out, so I will be encouraging even more friends to go this Virgin-Exetel wireless route (convinced two so far). Also, Dick Smith, Tandy (Woolworths Group)etc have the Virgin Pre Paid E169 and E1762 modems for $89. Target, and maybe other Coles Group stores, have the same Virgin Pre Pa...
