The software may be free but about a month ago whenever I call a number I am told that I need Nimbuzz credit. Perhaps because I have gone interstate?

Re: Set up info on Voip/fring via Mobile/HSPA

I have bought "Samsung SGH-U800 Soul b" mobile phone which is on the exetel's 3G/HSPA compatibility list. From Exetel, I have a HSPA sim/connection for the mobilephone and a new VIOP number. One of the customer service reps with exetel informed me that I don't need to download any software. I am no...

I'm OK. Thanks.
For the record it might be good to have the info here though.
For both XP and OSX I am/was using a Huawei E160E.

Dazzled wrote:It just works in most non-Windows systems. With Windows drivers (as supplied in the modem) it usually works if you start a new profile rather than alter one.
Nowadays it doesn't "just work" on a non-Windows system (OS-X in particular); See my previous post for the workaround.

I had to do three things: (1) Find out unlock code http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=5208158&postcount=19265 (2) Install unlocker "HUAWEI MODEM Code Writer.zip" http://www.entsperren.net/HUAWEI/HUAWEI%20MODEM%20Code%20Writer.zip Step (2) not necessary. Re: Virgin PrePaid Modem (E169) with Exetel SIM

Which shop had the E162? (understandable if you want to keep the info for your friends). Dick Smith, Tandy and Target. Most had the E169 so I had to shop around until I found a shop that had the E1762. D'oh! I meant which one had the E1762? Now that Exetel have waived the $5/month admin fee am cons...

Re: Virgin PrePaid Modem (E169) with Exetel SIM

I've never heard of the E1762E before, which means nothing as I don't keep up with new releases of modems. I found that the E1762 was the better and faster of the two (E169 and E1762) providing that your tower supports 7.2 mbps download. I've never looked up the specs for the E160E, so I don't anyt...

Re: Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband starter kit and Exetel SIM

Did you get the wireless modem going? Thanks machine. Sorry I wasn't clear in stating that it is now unlocked... via the three steps (plus creating new profile using the said generic connection manager) For the record it is a Huawei E160E running on Vista bought from a Virgin store. Re: Virgin PrePaid Modem (E169) with Exetel SIM

Thanks, a good reference to have. Of all the Huawei modems it does not support my (friend's) Virgin one (E160E). That's OK because I found a web site where good Samaratins give strangers unlock codes! http://forum.exetel.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=30673&p=265019#p265019 It all worked out, so I will...

Re: Virgin PrePaid Modem (E169) with Exetel SIM

Installed generic connection manager from
http://www.nextgenserver.com/support/in ... ditemid=70
but it modem is still locked.
Must look for explicit unlocking software.
By the way, it is an E160E (not a 169).

Re: Virgin PrePaid Modem (E169) with Exetel SIM

I think you can safely reflash the Virgin modem with generic "Mobile Partner" software which installs a connection manager with no profiles. I have done this successfully with an Optus branded stick, but have not tried it on a Virgin one yet. http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/file/download.do?f=24...
