Is shaping really this bad?
I have been connected at good speed with ADSL2 via Exetel for over a year now. I am very happy with the service. I have selected the shaped (64 kbps) option for onpeak and offpeak. Offpeak shaping correctly kicked in yesterday. Right now I am seeing serious packet loss and speed issues. Is this an a...

Re: Email lost and connection Timeouts
This issue is being delt with at the moment and is the result of at least 20 exetel customers spamming through the server. Thanks for the reply, Andrew. It would be interesting if the spammers were prosecuted with a very public show trial. Sending spam to Aussie addresses is illegal in Australia. S...

Re: Email lost and connection Timeouts
I have power cycled my ADSL2 modem and started a fresh connection to the net.
The email problem persists. SMTP server times out.
I am successfully sending email via another SMTP server, so the problem looks to be at Exetel's end.
Can an admin look into this please?

Re: Email lost and connection Timeouts
smtp.nsw.exemail.com.au has been acting up all morning for me. Two different symptoms:
(*) connection refused
(*) too many connections - try again later
The first error takes a long time to come up, after a timeout occurs.
The second error, when it does happen, is immediate.

Low connection speed after line fault fixed
The other day my voice line stopped working. The support team provided a great response and had the voice line fixed on the same day.
Since then, I no longer connection at the 8100 kbps I usually get.
The ADSL2 now connects at about 2100 kbps.
Can I please have this looked into.
thanks

I writing this from my neighbour's computer :( My ADSL2 link has been offline completely since 2:30 pm. Have you configured any of the connected computers to static IP's in the modem? All of my home LAN uses static IPs. It's possible the arp packets are trying to find devices it thinks are supposed ...

modem still not idle
I have looked further into this busy modem. All machines have been turned off. None expect traffic. Modem has been factory reset and re-configured. Fire up modem, establish a good ADSL2 connection at 8 Mpbs. The modem immediately starts TX-ing and RX-ing ... what, I dunno. But the ADSL and two LAN L...

please escalate this issue
I have now done a factory reset on my Netcomm NB4p5 modem. The symptoms persist. Please ignore above discussions regarding bad checksums and tcp dumps. That was a blind alley. I am experiencing major network stalling and packet drops. When TCP/IP connections work, they scream along. But often, conne...

No arp requests would be coming through from us to try and connect to a private IP, rather this is non-typical modem behavior also. Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, this has me a bit confused. It looks like the modem is unsure of what's happened to the machine at .24 and so is querying the network ...

idle modem idle no more
Over the past few days I have noticed that when there *should be* no activity on my LAN, the ADSL2 and LAN port lights are flashing on the my NetCOMM NB5p4 modem. A tcpdump reveals the following, after power cycling the modem and having no machines requesting any network activity. Every second or so...

The latest symptoms of this modem or connection problem are very apparent when I try to send an email with a 350 KB attachement. First try: message send progress bar stalls at 40% Second try: it stalls at 85% Third try: it stalls at 33% Fourth try: it stalls at 98% (!) The email is being sent to the...

tcp connections stall - could it be my modem?
Suddenly today around noon, my ADSL2 connection started acting up. I am using a Netcomm NB5plus4, connecting to Redfern at about 8000 Mbps. Web connections stall. The OZ speedtest falters and hangs 1/2 way through a 9 MB download. scp/ssh sometimes connects to a remote host, sometimes not. I've done...
