Mail to myself rejected

Post by phelum » Sat Mar 04, 2017 9:08 pm

Hi,

I've got an MTA here on my static IP address and when it tries to send an e-mail to my Exemail address I get :

SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
host ipmx2.po.exetel.com.au [220.233.2.146]: 554-mscip02.mailsentry.net.au
554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.

I can't see any banner in a line trace that indicates anything about my MTA so perhaps it's that my IP address is on a blacklist. My IP address is 220.233.7.85.

Can anybody tell me if I'm on an Exetel blacklist or suggest what I can do so my MTA can send to Exemail addresses ?

Thanks,
Steven

In case anybody is following this thread:
The MTA I'm running is exim4 and when it wants to send to an exemail address it gets the server name via an MX request. It looks like the servers named in the reply won't accept a connection from an exetel user (e.g. me).

To fix this I've now put exim4 in smarthost mode where all outgoing e-mails are sent to smtp.exemail.com.au. This works but adds one hop for all e-mails to non-exemail addresses.

Cheers,

At this stage we want to clarify the following.

- Are you referring to your exemail address or is it a hosted email address

- When did the issue started and what were the settings which you have used previosuly with the MTA

Hi,
The rejection problem has started again late last week. I reported it on Nov 24 but apart from an initial reply to say my support request was received I've heard nothing. The primary exemail MTA is 220.233.2.146. My simple test to show the rejection is "telnet 220.233.2.146 25" and the connection is immediately closed with "554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.".

My support ticket number is 13852191. The only blacklist reference I can find is at http://dnsbl.spfbl.net and they complain about my MTA not being online 24/7. My MTA has no problem sending to any other host and it is only Exetel that is rejecting me.

Can support please check why you're rejecting me and hopefully fix the block. Messages to myself are mainly CRON reports.

Thanks,
-- Steven Saunderson

Hi,
The problem with rejection by your MTA (220.233.2.146) has stopped and I can now sent using my MTA (Exim4) here. But now attempting to send via normal e-mail (using smtp.exemail.com.au) is rejected. The only address I can send to is residential support. If you have any evidence that I'm sending spam please provide the details so I can investigate.

Thanks,
I have checked the ticket and you have provided the details through that. Therefore, I have further escalated to the system administrators to check if anything can be identified from our end. We will provide you a feedback accordingly.
