.... or maybe Optus?

Does seem strange though. I'm at a different location/connection now, but same exchange, same modem/router type, same Exetel/Optus ADSL2, and I have no problems leaving the MTU set to 1492.

Hi, I have just experinced the same problem as reported in this post, cannot send emails, regardless of their size. The error message says Server is refusing SMTP connections, does this mean it is just too busy and why all of a sudden. i have not changed account settings

This sounds very much like an MTU issue. HTML emails, no matter how little text you put in them are, by default, very large and so will trigger MTU issues whereas text-only emails can be small enough to fit in a packet and as such go through.

Hi, I have been having the same issues today. I have changed nothing in my settings but I have had trouble with sending emails. I was getting the SMTP not found error also, but after a few tries the email eventually went through. No other issues with Browsing only email. I sent a test email to myself, which did send however I didnt get it for 4 hours! Strange indeed. Seems to be working now though, so someone at Exetel or Optus might be fudging with the settings! Who knows... this has happened before but I couldnt find a reason.
