If having OUTLOOK Outlook express Email setup Problems

Post by Dxxp » Sun Oct 26, 2008 7:50 pm

Exetel and private domain email accounts:

If Exetel is the ISP you are using where ever you happened to be located at any one time
Yes use standard email setup format.

pop3.[state].exemail.com.au
smtp.[state].exemail.com.au

If you have an exemail or private domain set up in outlook with non-exetel ISP

Increasingly more ISP's for increasingly more competitor ISP accounts you
NEED: ISP outlook smtp settings to send mail.
i.e., For bigpond
IN: pop3.[state].exemail.com.au
OUT: mail.bigpond.com

Phone ISP help of whatever ISP you are using at a particular location and they (all being ideal) will tell you the mail settings required.

No server authentification for out or in.
So ports will be

IN 110
OUT 25
and no special socket selection.

Gmail google accounts.
Need to have outgoing server authentification selected
I have two gmail accounts with different settings, but I'm guessing this is because one is old and the other newer.
The newer google outlook account settings
require SSL checked.
OUT 995
IN 465
and SSL socket selection.

BASICS to set up email accounts through OUTLOOK can be found elsewhere on this site. Sorry can't remember where off the top of my head.

I have followed the prompt to triple check my configuration but it wont authenticate.

Also i am able to log into the webmail using the same login details.

Is there a problem with the pop3.nsw server?

There are no problems with the Exetel pop3 servers currently. I find that a good test of authentication to said server is to use a 'plain-text' method, that being telnet. There is a page which explains it quite well here:

(Although it's worth noting that the user you will need to use to authenticate IS your full email address)

Thanks Daniel,

Its all sorted now, my client relied on Outlook saving the password, but they inherently didnt save it the first time, so it used a default which naturally failed.

Thanks for your reply.
