Accessing email securely

Post by Mick01 » Sun Aug 21, 2011 8:55 pm

Is there a way to access my exetel email account with security (via POP3, not webmail). I'm using public wifi networks a bit lately on my phone, and am concerned about the security of sending my password over an unsecured connection.

Webmail uses an https connection. Most browsers can report on the current security certificate (the padlock icon). POP3 doesn't.

I'm trying to avoid using Webmail. It's a pain to use on a phone. POP/SMTP email does support encryption, as far as I can tell, so it's a question of whether Exetel has implemented it. And if it's not implemented, are there any plans to do so in the future?
