Smartphones and email

Post by TheBenjiManCan » Thu Sep 22, 2011 4:03 pm

I have an Exetel ADSL service at home as well as an Exetel Mobile service.

I have an Android 2.2 phone

I want to use email seamlessly from both home and out-n-about.
Accessing email is not a problem, but sending is.....

At home I'm on the WiFi and have to use the exetel SMTP server,
Out-n-about on Optus network, I need to use the Optus SMTP server

That's an absolute pain in the bum to have to switch the settings in the email client.

Anyone got any advice for this ?
Does exetel have some kind of authenticated server I can use that won't matter whether I'm on the Exetel wired network, or the Optus network ?

Hi TheBenjiManCan,

Are you using Exemail email address or non-Exemail email address?

That would be a non-Exemail address.

Does that mean to suggest to sign up to gmail (even if I don't want gmail), and just use it to configure gmail's authenticated SMTP server which will allow me to send my non-exemail & non-gmail emails out through gmail's gateway.

Whether that's what you meant or not ...... I'll give it a go.

Dear TheBenjiManCan,

The outgoing mail server for your ADSL connection, smtp.nsw.exemail.com.au does not support mail relay.

When mail relay is not supported on the outgoing mail server, you need to change it according to the internet connection you are connecting through.

you can use Gmail to manage a non Gmail account, pickup mail, send on behalf of etc, other clients can do the same if you prefer other solutions, Hotmail, Yahoo etc, if it's an email belonging to a domain you may have some sort of authenticated access you can use
