Can't access email- previously via ADSL now from wifi

My daughter has an email account at home via our ADLS connection. She has started at University of NSW and is in New College (a residential college) which use Big Air as the wireless provider. She has internet connection but she can't access email. Email system is Thunderbird and she has an Imac.

Is there some blindingly obvious issue here with the settings etc that I could help her with? In essence she has simply taken the Imac which ran off ADSL and connected it to a wireless network and email doesn;t work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can she get web pages at the college? If so, can she also ping the Exetel mail server, ping pop3.nsw.exemail.com.au or ping 220.233.0.76?

Thunderbird settings should remain the same.

She will be unable to send Exemail mail from a non-Exetel IP address through Thunderbird. For that job she can use https://webmail.exetel.com.au

how 'doesn't work' is it? Receiving email when not on the Exetel network is no problem, sending would require using the other internet providers outgoing server though

Thanks guys. Jokiin's analysis is correct. She can receive but can't send so we will get details of the new outgoing server and try that. Who knows, we may stumble into success!

She can always use webmail to send, as I posted above, from any location. She could also obtain an email account from such suppliers as Gmail, and configure Thunderbird - eg http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Gmail_w ... illa_Suite

The Exemail server, like most mail servers, requires no authentication to send. To prevent abuse, it rejects foreign addresses. Other mail types use secure connections both ways, and aren't so open to abuse.

very common situation, ask the College the details for their outgoing mail server assuming they allow it, if not webmail as suggested by Dazzled is something that can be used from anywhere, I don't find it particularly convenient but to be fair it depends just how much you use email as to how big an issue that might be, if she's a frequent user she might find it more convenient to use something like Gmail, Hotmail etc to manage the account
