Lost one exemail email address?

Hi,

I had set up two exemail email addresses years ago. One of them was used exclusively as the contact address listed against my domain. As such, I only accessed it once a year or longer.

I've only just now noticed that this email address is no longer listed against my account in the Exetel Members Facilities.

- Was there a cleanup of some sort that occurred that I missed reading about?

- Is it possible to get this account back, including the email that was under it?

I recently converted from ADSL1 to ADSL2, but presume this wouldn't have affected the email addresses - the service number is unchanged. I was going to try adding the email address back in, but thought I should raise this first in case.

Thanks

Email accounts are automatically deleted after six months of no access - subsequent emails sent to that address will bounce. I believe that once deleted such addresses are then quarantined for a week or two (marked not available to other customers) in case they were accidentally deleted (or not accessed) by the original owner who wants to get them back again.

Provided no-one else has grabbed the address since yours came out of quarantine, you can simply recreate it. But you will need to access it at least once every few months to keep it active.

If you had left any emails on the Exemail mail server for that account they will be gone - it's not a good idea to use any ISP as a long-term email storage facility :-)

HI,

Could you please PM me the email address, so I could look in to this for you :?:

Yikes, I didn't know that. That must be a fairly recent introduction, as I'm sure I let this particular address sit idle for around a year previously.

So by "you will need to access it at least once every few months to keep it active", do you mean accessing it via the webmail interface?

Thanks very much for the info, Gidget!

The policy has actually been in place for some years - it was announced on the Forum as I recall. The policy is to combat the large numbers of email addresses that get created but never used, thereby taking up unnecessary resources.

Accessing the account via Webmail (or POPPeeper) works fine.

Some kind of warning sent to the main contact email would be nice.

it was a very nice email, sent to main contact, many years ago.

since then it's in the t&c when you create email addressses.
