Hi All,
I've just got a D-Link Wireless G Router to make my system wireless.
It's working but my network is coming up as unsecured. Obviously, I'd like to secure it. I've tried putting usernames and passwords in where ever I can find one but I can't seem to secure the network.
I'm running Vista Home Premium.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Laren

Re: Help Securing Wireless Connection
have you logged into the router interface and enabled security and set the password there first?Laren wrote:Hi All,

Re: Help Securing Wireless Connection
Hi,
I've managed to find and change the router UN and PW.
I think I've found the right section for the wireless connection but I'm not sure what it's asking for.
In Wireless Security Mode it's talking about
WEP
WPA
WPA 2
It has WEP as the lowest form of security and it wants (5 ASCII or 10 HEX) - does this just mean a 5 character PW?
Cheers,
Laren

Re: Help Securing Wireless Connection
Page 44 of your user manual (http://www.dlink.com/products/support.a ... v=98&sec=0) details wireless security.
WEP is the lowest form, and yes, a 5 character password is used and then converted into a 10 character hexadecimal passcode
WPA 2 is probably the recommended setting for wireless security. not just because of the longer password, but because there are techniques that allow WEP to be broken even without guessing the password

Re: Help Securing Wireless Connection
Corey,
Thanks for the advice. I'm now getting a secure network notice and I've used the ipod to test it and it wanted a password! So it looks like I'm all set.
Thanks very much for you help.
