Lightening has damaged my modem

Post by Kathryn » Tue Apr 28, 2009 1:43 pm

Hi all
Seems a nearby lightining strike has damaged my NetCom NB9W Modem. This is a real shame because it has done everything I need for the past two years. Not being very technicaly minded I'm having trouble undestanding which of the Netcom Models sold by exetel is a replacement for the NB9W. I need to be able to access ADSL1 ( Apparently ADSL2 isn't avaliable in my area), VOIP, and wirelessly use my laptop around the house, as I did before the big bang. The "$315 ADSL2+4-port Wireles and voip gate way" is way beyond my budget. If exetel still sold the NB9W I would just replace it but it's not on the Hardware list.
Can anybody recomend the most cost afective way to achive these three things ? :?

You need a combined ADSL modem/router/ATA, and Exetel has the Dynalink 1046VW for $175 + delivery. See http://www.netcomm.com.au/products/dynalink/rta1046vw

Another device very similar to your old one is the Netcomm NB9WMAXX and you can still find these. I noticed one advertised here http://seeknbuy.com.au/search.php?searc ... mm&x=0&y=0 recently.

Another possibility is to get a Netcomm V210P separate ATA from Exetel at $75 and couple it to a wireless modem/router, for less than $100, naturally. Some possibilities here http://www.jmgtechnology.com.au/index.p ... dc5fe8cf27 Exetel has the NB6W for $90. You can sometimes get one down to $50-ish, eg http://www.jmgtechnology.com.au/index.p ... bb82eb8a37

Hey Thom, do they really send it by ship?

G'day Kathryn, try searching MSY for a NetComm NB9Wmaxx Modem @ $189 pick-up only from most of their shops.

Cheers,

Mike
