IP Address change - Discussion

Still on my original IP here too. Internet is still working so not really an issue, but just thought I'd mention it.

I thought the same.
I think you will find that your IP address will change when you restart your modem.
This worked for me.

I just tried restarting and yes, I have a new IP now. Everything seems to be working still.

Indeed - that did the trick. Probably should have tried that, but the email from exetel said "you do not need to take any action or change any settings"; no mention of need for modem restart...

Your ADSL circuit needs to be disconnected and then reconnect for you to be assigned the new IP address.

is anyone having issues using windows RDP after changing over to the new ip?

As RDP into my home server no longer works, no other changes has been done on my end, have rebooted my modem and obtained the new ip address. I noticed gateway and dns havent changed? is that right??

Yes, the gateway and DNS will not change.

Yes, the mail I got from businesssupport@ did mention the need to do that.

Just reporting back that the routing change for my /29 worked fine too, thanks for your assistance with that.

Disconnected and reconnected the modem-router and the new IP address came up and was accessible.

What is missing is being able to download articles from telstras usenet service; reader.news.telstra.net . None since IP change. One clients says that access is denied. other does nothing.

can this be fixed please?
Or can I have my old IP number back back?

Same here, now that you mention it -

"A News (NNTP) error occurred: pit-reader.telstra.net: Access denied to your node - newsmaster@telstra.net"

I don't think much of our chances of having our access restored

Since the IP change (3/9/9) both my:

ADSL2 Service

and

HSPA Service

are suffering major 10-15sec lag spikes every 30-60 secs.

Many of your customers having same problem.

I would like to hear a reason as to why they can not restore it. I can not think of any logical reason as to why it would be available under one set of IP numbers and not the other.

I doubt it is related, but I will ask an engineer to investigate.
