Download problems from TOMTOM, only for exetel though.

Post by willsy » Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:03 pm

I've been trying to update my tomtom since i bought it a few weeks ago, however only some of the smaller updates can be downloaded. All others come up with errors.

Been speaking to tomtom support people, and aparrently i'm having problems getting .cab files from their server but nothing else.

Tomtom suggested there may be some ".cab' file filter within the ISP

Asked a mate to download the file (he's on exetel also) and he couldn't do it, same error.

Asked another mate (on bigpond) and he could get it just fine.

I checked my local hardware and even factory reset the modem/router, disabled windows firewall and all antivirus, no dice.

Basically, i can't download this file: (or any .cab or .exe file from them)
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcor ... re-ONE.cab
or this file:
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/applic ... 25_win.exe

But i can get this one:
http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals ... poster.pdf

Which tomtom says is on the same server.

This is their reply to my problem:
I repointed to your IP, and tried the link and had no issues. So I don't think it's the server. There must be some .cab filter somewhere with your ISP.

Can you manually download the file here?

How about the pdf file here? If the pdf file is downloadable, it's definitely a ".cab" extension blocking issue since they're identical servers. Check your router and computer virusscanner/firewall config and make sure no activex restrictions/blocking is in place.
Any help would be great, been trying for weeks now, it's driving me mad.

That address resolves to 220.233.2.168. When I sooled a downloader onto it, I got a 504 timeout. Looks like an Akamai problem.

It appears to have been troublesome for a week, and others report a public proxy will get around it. http://proxy.org/proxies_sorted.shtml

Yeah. Just use something like http://www.hidemyass.com/ or http://www.web4proxy.com/ and you can successfully download those files.

Hi,

I've taken a look at this and raised this with the tomtom peope. There was an issue with their DNS server responding to the exetel DNS server which has been resolved.

thanks very much, updates seem to be working fine now without the need for a proxy.

Much appreciated!
