Best Voip Modem

Post by muznutz » Mon Nov 02, 2009 6:10 am

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas about which modem is the best to get, especially for the Exetel network. I need these features: voip and wireless networking. I am using a Netcom NB9WMAXX a the moment which is working well although I can't change the wireless aerial for a bigger, higher gain one. I need to have this capability too.

I was running, before the Netcomm, an Open 824RLW, but that was not good at all!

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I think you should find the best modem/router/ATA device for your overall needs, and the NB9WMaxx is certainly easy to set up and versatile, and afterwards attend separately to a special long distance wireless requirement. Australian and US law both limit Emission of Isotropic Radiated Power to 4W EIRP, ie 36dBm. All modems sold here comply. If you have a very distant device on your network, you could use a separate bridged wireless access point designed to boost the distance. Some are outdoor models and are commonly used in factories and industrial yards (Netcomm etc). Some of the longer range are antennas + a router board in a single case, eg http://www.rfshop.com.au/Default.aspx?t ... uctID=5074 Have a chat to one of the wireless suppliers in each state for the gear to get for your case.

Adelaide has a large private wireless network, with some useful tech info on the site at http://www.air-stream.org.au/
