Has my IP address changed ?

Post by Dr Tezza » Wed May 26, 2010 8:53 pm

(I tried searching the forums, but it didn't like "address" and "changed" and "IP" (too common), so I hope this hasn't been answered elsewhere. Sorry in advance if it has...)

Is it possible that my IP address has changed ? I believe it was 58.etc, but:

- last night I suddenly lost sync at approx 1730hrs;
- no known network problems reported;
- no forum entries of similar issues;
- re-boot (several, including 1 x >2 hrs) – no change;
- dial tone present;
- modem operational (has 3G fallover);
- no change in equipment, etc.;
- left it alone overnight, still down this morning, but this afternoon I was able to sync with ADSL instead of 3G;
- I notice that my IP address is now 220.233.etc.;
- connection is faultless again (as it has been for years - literally).

Does this make any sense to anyone ? (Hallucination ?)

Any advice/comments appreciated. (Keep it nice, please :) )

You aren't seeing things, your service has been migrated to our ADSL2+ network (which requires the IP address change due to different termination).

You weren't supposed to be offline for 24 hours though..

Thanks Jason

In the Member Facilities, I noticed that "Radius Logins" mentions iiNet...

Also in the Member Facilities, when I "ping", I get: "couldn't connect to host"...(relevance ?)

Does this migration have any implications ? e.g. does this influence my (almost decided) decision to move to ADSL2+ ? (I'm curious, as I knew nothing about any move - although I s'pose I didn't need to know, other than: Yes, it was about 23 hours....Thank goodness for my 3G backup !)

Cheers

Hi Terry,

We use AAPT for DSL2 ports, and they have 20% of IINET, so they increase their footprint by using their ports in some areas.

Sorry to bug you James, but this is somewhat unexpected and I've really been wanting to move to ADSL2+ for a while now, so please forgive a few (excited) questions please:

- Does this make any move to an ADSL2+ plan easier? (i.e. less down-time?)

- I notice that all the ADSL2+ plans have disappeared from my options, leaving AAA to AAD plans. [I like!] Is there any reason I couldn't sign up right now ? :shock:

Thanks

Terry

Hi Terry,

Feel free to bug me, that's what i'm here for:)

They are the only ADSL2+ plans you have the option of choosing, as you are now on AAPT infrastructure.
