that was going to be my next suggestion in case your IP was blocked, if the IP range was blocked and not just the individual IP address it would still be a problem though, have you asked about this with whoever looks after your IT stuff at work?

You keep mentioning router - silly question but is the modem separate to the router? Try rebooting the modem... even pull the phone line out to make sure that the sync has completely dropped out...

Only because I had a similar issue with very similar symptoms - it turns out that it was my modem (not the router), after rebooting the modem everything was good again...
