Unable to connect to linux.com

Postby ohnjay on Fri Sep 05, 2014 8:05 pm

My earlier post on this topic seems to have vanished, so here I go again.

Whenever I try to connect to linux.com I receive an error message from the browser.
Firefox reports "Server not found", Chrome reports tells me "The server at linux.com can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. "
I have RSS feeds from yesterday, so this seems to have happened in the last day.

Isitdownrightnow.com reports that linux.com is up and reachable.

According to whois, linux.com IP addresses are 140.211.67.50 and 140.211.67.51.
When I ping either of these, ping tells me that the packets are being filtered at 207.98.64.39.
Traceroute tells me that 207.98.64.39 belongs to corv-carl-gw.nero.net.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried telnet into the site via port 80 and see if it works?

telnet linux.com 80

EDIT : Also could you please tell me what DNS you are using at the moment. If it's Exetel, could you try with following DNS setup.
Primary : 8.8.8.8
Alternate : 4.2.2.2

Shaming, there's a null response to dig from Exetel's name server for www.linux.com. The site is up.

Telnet responds "Host name lookup failure"

Yes, I am using Exetel DNS. Unfortunately my stupid Billion 7800NL modem is factory preset to get WAN settings from ISP,
and has no facility to manually set the DNS.

I also tried dig on Exetel's DNS and got null response.
Googles DNS responds :
Code: Select all
linux-c6ql:/home/john # dig @8.8.8.8 NS +short linux.com
ns2.linux-foundation.org.
ns1.linux-foundation.org.
