Spamming?

Post by Sloth_Boy » Thu Dec 22, 2005 1:17 pm

Last night i was blocked from exetel becuase spam was being sent through my adsl connection. I'm unblocked now after i explained that i later did a virus check and also noticed that i had my firewall disabled. I've also enabled strict access on my router, i now have strict mac address filtering on my router, so only computers on my netowkr can connect.

I want to take maximum pre-cautions seeing if they find ass spam from my serviuce again, there will be some liability fee's or something...

Anyway, is there any software that would prevent viruses from sending spam?

Also, anyone else had a problem with spam before?

Cheers!

It is interesting. I just churned to Exetel yesterday and created a mail account last night. Checking today I have 13 messages. One is from Exetel, the rest are junk/spam. 12 isn't a lot in the general scheme of things, but this e-mail address did not exist 20 hours ago and has never been used!

It's ridiculous!

Hi Gary

Perhaps another customer had the email address before you and deleted it because it picked up a lot of spam.

Welcome to Exetel by the way :D

Cheers

Thanks Gidget

Hadn't thoufht of that. I'll have to see how it goes. Might try a nonense name for another address and see what happens with that one.

Many spammers use a dictionary or commonly used or even guessed e-mails, and so this is one of their ways to spam.

I created an e-mail account ( I just added er to the e-mail username ) based upon someone saying to me the other something similar, and I've got no spam.

Just try making an account with "unregistered" or "spam" or "registration". Any of those are guaranteed to get you 100 spam mails a day ;).

I'm getting about 3 viagra spams a day but have never had a problem with outgoing spam.

Currently this would be 'OS X' but the day will come.............

Never had spam via Exetel but get regular stuff via website.

My Gmail account gathers prolific spam. :D
