Does the blizzard torrent downloader for patches use the same port as WoW?

Maybe that's getting confused?

It does, however I and some others experiencing problems have actually got the downloader turned completely off while playing.

Montaro wrote:I do understand what you are saying but to me it just seems a little bit targeted on a specific server type.. forgive me if I'm wrong but doesn't wow and war3 authenticate to the same/similar servers? all through blizzard..
I believe war3 only authenticates via blizzard, the game session is hosted by whoever creates the match in the first place.
Montaro wrote:Does this occur all times of the day? As I also thought maybe it was something to do with Exetel's P2P deprioritization mechanism confusing the blizzard port for a P2P application?
I'm experiencing the login issues at any time of day, be it 10am, 3pm, 10pm or later.
Montaro wrote:There could be numerous scenarios. I would personally attempt to eliminate it on your end (reinstall wow, fresh patches, etc), contact blizzard and see if they know of any issue and then finally contact Exetel in relation to this..
Already eliminated everything on this end (although I haven't contacted Blizzard, but this seems localized to Exetel as far as I can tell), thats why I'm posting here

Well it does indeed seem like your bases are covered. I've put my two cents in so I'll leave you guys alone now.. ;-) Perhaps ask around to see if you can get this post to obtain the attention of some staff, might get a solution that way.

Good luck guys.

I will be looking into this issue tonight and hopefully will be able to pinpoint the source of this problem. Time to blow the dust off the old mage

I was wondering if anybody on Optus ADSL2+ peruses this thread. If so, could you possibly tracert to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com and paste the first 16 hops here (until it starts timing out).

My observations last night:

1. Up until 8pm I was suffering the same sort of problems that I was the past 2 weeks (regular lag spikes >1k, sometimes extending for up to 3 seconds)

2. At 8pm I jumped into a raid, but before I zoned in I updated my mods and relogged. From then on in my latency was never over 350ms, no spikes, no disconnections.

I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test off-peak yet but I will on Friday night.

The changes that were made yesterday that could have changed/resolved this problem are

1. I use Powertel ADSL2, and there was some work performed on this link yesterday.

2. I elected to join the fair play pool.

3. I updated my mods (I use alot, mind you, and a poorly coded revision could have caused these issues)

If anyone else could comment on gameplay last night, please let me know. I'm looking for observations from all different types of customers.

ADSL1 user.

Same thing happen to me, before 8pm I had lag spikes, 700+ms ping, couple of D/C's.. then after 8pm none (We also started a raid at 8pm to 11pm)

I did not change my mods or update. Mods have nothing to do with this problem. I use all of 3 mods that are current.

The problem comes and goes. No other guildie uses Exetel (we have over 120 members in our guild), and when I have problems its only me. I come back after a D/C or a lag spike and ask if anyone else got that and they never do. We use to have 10 exetel guildies but they have all gone to other ISP's over the last 6 months due to the problems. Im the last, I dont want to leave and am hoping you guys fix this as ive been with exetel for ages now, but even I am growing short on patience.

Honestly its been like this (on and off) for close to 5 months.

Really bad problems will come, then go, then come back again.

The worst is after 12am. from about 12am to 3am its horrible.

Also fair play pool does nothing. Ive gone off and on it to test it a few times and believe it or not my connection is better when im not on fair play, but it still sucks.

ADSL Toowoomba Middle Ridge Exchange, playing on Dath'Remar.

Logged in around 6:30PM (ish), pings sat at 260-300 (I really had my hopes up, the latency bar was green for the first time) for 10 minutes, spiked to 1200 and sat there for a good 10-20 minutes, damn painful, then dropped to 550-600 for a good hour or so. Further drop to 400-500 and that is where it sat for the night and still damn painful.

Did not disconnect, but that ping is a lot higher than the 350-400 ish it normally is and makes gameplay near impossible.
I only run a couple of addons, and there are all current versions, I updated last week, and they have nothing to do with this.
I have even gave QoS priority to the WoW ports on the router, no difference.

This is becoming a right pain you know where. No-one else in the guild has the same dramas or D/C's, I'm the only Exetel user. My son and I both play, and if there isn't a fix to it, then I am going to consider my options come contract period time, although I do not really want to as this is the only problem I've had with you guys.

Cheers. Hopefully there is a fix in sight.

I only played for about 30-45min from 4:30pm yesterday, iirc I had to login twice before I could connect.
When I was in game, I was spiking pretty badly to the point of getting disconnected twice.

I'm not sure about after that, but I do know my brother was raiding after 10pm, and I know he wasn't lagging/spiking at that time...

EDIT:
Seems fine at 2:10PM now, I'll keep an eye on it.
(I'm on 1.5Mbit Melb POP btw)
