Did you try an isolation test ? Have ONLY your computer connected to the phone line with a short cable?

How about resetting your Modem to default and typing your userid and password again in case there is a setting in there which is wrong.

Your attenuation is reasonable, you should be getting good speeds.
yep fresh xp install
Ive isolated twice, reset modem, reterminated socket and cable, tried a second PC, removed router. I was syncing at 13000 and BER was zero. this should mean my line and settings are fine and the bottleneck is further back

I am not sure if Richard has been in contact with you this morning, but could you please try downloading 3 files at once from the following sites (both separate tests).

3 files from http://mirror.exetel.com.au (over 10mb in size each please)

3 files from http://www.apple.com/ (again, over 10mb in size)

While you are running the 3 downloads from each site please add together the speeds and let me know of the total figure that you get from each site. This information will then be passed on to our supplier.

Hi,

Looks all good.
I wish I had a 700 mbit Internet connection :).

The results should be kb/s not mbits.

Thank You

looked good then but im getting lower than adsl 1 speeds at the moment. interestingly my upload speeds are fine. 500-600kbps without fail since connection. Please tell me what to do next. My line is obviously capable of high speeds which mind you are still in the adsl1 range BEST CASE SCENARIO - but rarely performs at its best. Im extremely disapointed in my service. Could you please enquire with optus and ask them to check the equipment and or congestion in my exchange? Like i said the speeds yeterday were great but didnt last more than an hour

Probably worth rerunning the tests again while the issue is occurring. This could be an exchange congestion issue which may only accur during certain periods of the day, or randomly.

I've noticed the speeds drop to nothing (30-300kbps, more so 30 lately) from about 9am-12pm and 12pm-2am (start and end of offpeak).

They also drop to around 300-1500kbps during 6pm-9pm which is less of an issue because it's actually possible to browse.

Also - between 9pm-12am I generally get about 2000-3000kbps and from about 4am-8am/1pm-5pm I get about 5000+kbps.

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 8504 Kbps 719 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 8292 Kbps 800 Kbps

From what I gather from these observations is that there is congestion.

Is this some kind of temporary congestion problem?

Unenderra speed issues

Post by zeljko » Wed Oct 31, 2007 8:05 pm

Well this is my 4th month of shit adsl speeds. Exetel Adsl 2 promises faster speeds than 1000 download and 312 upload but exetel is so crap that i get if im lucky 600 download and about 100 upload and not its not my modem or my line sumtimes i get around 4000 download which is max but usually so 90% of the time the speeds bellow 400 download and about 100 upload exetel is crap i complained one time before no one offered me help sum team exetel is my speeds have been like this since i switched to adsl 2 which they made me they also made me change my line to optus im going to complain to the department of fair trading because im paying 70 $ or whatever i pay for adsl 1 not 2. Im cancling my plan with exetel and if its still under contract im paying no extra to cancle as i have been paying exetel 70+$ for adsl 1.
Exetel is no good at all like speeds are consistantly low their adsl 1 was good but since they made us transfer to adsl 2 it has been so bad and slow.
