Post by TallicA22 » Sat Oct 06, 2007 12:25 am

Ok this isnt a speed issue thing so mods move it to where ever it should go..

Just a question

1 17 ms 1 ms 1 ms NB6W.home [192.168.1.1]
2 32 ms 31 ms 30 ms 201.2.96.58.exetel.com.au [58.96.2.201]
3 44 ms 43 ms 44 ms 1.2.96.58.exetel.com.au [58.96.2.1]
4 45 ms 44 ms 44 ms 10.0.1.1
5 46 ms 45 ms 45 ms 359-ge-0-0-0.GW5.SYD2.ALTER.NET
[203.166.92.57]
6 45 ms 45 ms 44 ms so-6-2-0.XT1.SYD2.ALTER.NET [210.80.38.221]
7 45 ms 45 ms 45 ms so-6-0-0.BR2.SYD2.ALTER.NET [210.80.33.218]
8 46 ms 45 ms 44 ms FastEthernet2-2.ken17.Sydney.telstra.net [139.13

9 47 ms 46 ms 46 ms 10GigabitEthernet0-1-0-2.ken-core4.Sydney.telstr
a.net [203.50.20.1]

10 59 ms 59 ms 58 ms TenGigE0-12-0-2.win-core1.Melbourne.telstra.net
[203.50.79.129]
11 58 ms 57 ms 58 ms TenGigabitEthernet8-1.exi2.Melbourne.telstra.net
[203.50.80.154]
12 58 ms 58 ms 57 ms telstr478.lnk.telstra.net [139.130.43.102]
13 58 ms 57 ms 58 ms 144.140.178.5
14 * * * Request timed out.
15 * * * Request timed out.
16 58 ms 57 ms 58 ms 144.140.154.43

Does that mean data is routed throught sydney?? Same with

1 11 ms 1 ms 1 ms NB6W.home [192.168.1.1]
2 32 ms 30 ms 30 ms 201.2.96.58.exetel.com.au [58.96.2.201]
3 45 ms 45 ms 44 ms 1.2.96.58.exetel.com.au [58.96.2.1]
4 45 ms 45 ms 44 ms 10.0.1.2
5 45 ms 44 ms 44 ms AS4854.sydney.pipenetworks.com [218.100.2.18]
6 46 ms 44 ms 45 ms core1-hs-TenGigE-4-1.Sydney.netspace.net.au [203
.12.53.70]

7 58 ms 57 ms 57 ms core1-ks-gigether-7-14.Melbourne.netspace.net.au
[203.17.96.101]
8 58 ms 57 ms 57 ms core1-cr-gigether-5-2-11.Melbourne.netspace.net.
au [203.10.110.195]
9 59 ms 57 ms 59 ms 203.34.186.15

Now i dont really understand the meaning of a POP other then it stands for Point Of Presence but arent they there so data doesnt have to be routed to another state and then back?? or is that completely wrong

That is correct, the above trace is going via our Verizon IP Link, the trace you listed below is going via PIPE.

You are right, to keep it brief a POP is where services like your DSL service can be terminated.
