Changes To Powertel ADSL2 Plans

Post by ForumAdmin » Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:41 am

From December 1st we will be 're-aligning' and consolidating the various ADSL2+ plans delivered over the Powertel network.

Basically the download allowances are being slightly increased and some plan prices will become slightly lower cost.

The planned changes, from December 1st 2007, are:

PTLA - $40 per month - 48 gb - 8gb

PTLB - $50 per month - 48 gb - 12 gb

PTLC - $60 per month - 48 gb - 24 gb

PTLD - $75 per month - 48 gb - 36 gb

PTLE - $90 per month - 48 gb - 48 gb

Most customers will get a slightly lower monthly plan price or a slightly higher included allowance.

Heavy users of the 12 midnight to 12 noon download period are reminded that usage over 48 gb will be charged at $3.00 per gb from December 1st onwards.

Isn't it for over 72GB that will be charged?

arent these just the same plans that you had when you first brought out the powertel plans anyway. In any case its good to see the prices go back to what they were and not continue to go up in price.

i also thought that you were only charged if you went over 72GB. Has this changed?

1) Pretty much - the now formalised reduction in the rental of SSS has made it possible.

2) Always nice when value/customer dollar ratios improve.

3) As you know the no charge download times/conditions can change at any time.

No problem with the change in off peak as we have never gone over our off peak usage however you said you are reminding us about this change when we have never seen any mention of the change before.

Will the off peak change also affect Optus ADSL2 users?

1) All types of plans (ADSL1, ADSL2/Optus, ADSL2/Powertel and Wireless broadband have always had the same conditions on free download usage.

So just to clarify excess usage charges for off-peak will apply after 48GB not 72Gb(as previously mentioned) for all plans?

I think Non Powertel customers may have missed this Off Peak plan change.

Will Exetel make a general announcement of the Off Peak plan change?

One would hope so. While Exetel is quite within its rights to change conditions it's common courtesy to advise of such changes.

Usage page is already showing extra allowances even though they haven't come into effect yet... Bit confusing :S

I agree. The last mention of plan changes by email was this:

Since Exetel began offering broadband services in January 2004 we have made every effort to increase the value and capabilities of the plans we offer.

From October 1st 2007 we will make the following additional facilities available:

Email Addresses The current number of email addresses will be increased from 15 to 20

Web Space The amount of free web space will be increased from 60 megabytes to 200 megabytes

Static IP Each account will continue to have one static IP address

Free SMS You can send 20 free SMS messages from your broadband service at no charge each month; after 20 the charge is 5 cents per message

Referral Bonus(ADSL1 Only) If you refer a relative, friend or colleague you will receive a credit of $30.00 per referral to your Exetel account

We will also make two changes to the way the off peak period works from 1st November 2007:

Off Peak Time (1) The download allowance between 12 midnight and 12 noon each day will be increased from 40 gbytes to 48 gbytes

Off Peak Time (2) Downloads over 72 gbytes in the 12 midnight to 12 noon period will be charged at $3.00 per gbyte

The billing above 72 gb in the 12 midnight to 12 noon period will be activated from December 1st 2007.

Lowering that threshold from 72 gb to 48 gb is being considered at a later stage for current plans but all new advertised plans will indicate the limit will be 48 gb.

I personally dont mind if you charge for going over 48GB this in and of itself is quite generous. only charging after 72GB is just saying to the heavy users that the off peak limit is really 72GB and not 48GB as im sure exetel would prefer people stay under.

I think Exetel provides more downoads per dollar than any other realistic ISP and the time of Exetel's life has come , after four years, to 'rule a line'.

If 48 gb of downoads at no charge 12 hours a day isn't enough then - well fill in your own comment.
