If you could get a higher peak and a lower off peak for same price.
For the people that select the fair go option would be nice. :D

Great idea. Even though I am as careful as I can be I have gone over my limit on a couple of occasions. Having a web page pop up when I am near the limit and asking if I want to be shaped or not would be very useful.

What I was suggesting was that you only get charged for what you use. Ie, you 'buy' an extra 5GB, which means that you can go up to that at full speed before getting shaped again, but you'll only get charged for what you use. So if you only use 2GB this month, you only get charged for 2GB ($6) and then the next month is as usual and you can buy more if you need any more.

Basically the amount you buy just puts a limit on how much extra it's going to cost you for the month. So if I 'buy' 2GB, I know that I've got that extra 2GB if I need it, after which it gets shaped and it doesn't cost me more than $6 extra for the month.

Change plan

Hi, I used shaping when I was with Bigpond (at $150 per GB, who wouldn't). I don't need shaping now, at Exetel's reasonable rates, I just cop the extra fee.

What I would like to see is the ability to step up the plan to the next increment. For example, on the 20th day of the month, I see that I've blown my 12GB, I should be able to change plan to 25GB. Just change my bill for the month to the new plan. If necessary, bill me for excess over the new plan limit.

This way, I get the best of both worlds. No excess and no shaping.

My vote is for shaped as the default with the ability to change to payg. For people with kids this is always the safest. I always have trouoble recomending Exetel to others who have kids due to the lack of a shaped option.

The ability to prepay for extra traffic would be good to allow people to get the higher speed if/when they need it.

Great idea. I'm sure there have been potential customers who decided against Exetel for fear of being charged for exceeding their download limits despite the charges being relatively small.

(I have to admit, I haven't read all of this thread, so this may have been suggested...)

Maybe the options (shape/charge) could be selectable with check-boxes on the ADSL on-line application form, as well as being switchable in the User Facilities.

I'm guessing that the more average user (whatever that is) prefers to 'set-and-forget'.

I'd like slightly increased peak quota on my adsl2 incphone 8/48 plan, but reduced off peak quota.

4) Allow that selection to be changed once a month for the following month from the same page in the User Facilites.
[/quote]

This would be great if it REALLY REALLY could be done to either be an instant change, or worst case, 'overnight/24H' ...

Even if there was an extra $20 charge to make it happen "now" and it was a manual process that generated an email/ticket to someone who would manually make the changes where needed and update the bill. Make it enough of a charge to cover the people's time to do it, and you have a user pays system. If it is happening a lot, then it will be worth the development time to automate the changes. Then for 6 months or whatever you get paid the $20 per change which is done automatically but covers the development costs, and eventually you reduce the $20 fee to $5 or $0 or whatever...

ie, if it is really that important to someone, let them "Put their money where their mouth is". A paid option is better than "Bad luck, wait until next month"...

BTW, I have also advised a few people to join exetel, and they haven't due to the no shaped option/ unknown total cost if they have excess. Also, personally my ADSL is on the higher limits because I *might* need that much, but pretty much never come close, and once I have exceeded my limit and been happy to pay the $3 for the less than one GB excess.

We have decided to offer the option of either paying for excess usage or having the bandwidth constrained after the included allowance has been reached for all current plans.

This will apply to both peak and off peak plan inclusions and can be selected/deselected by each customer at any time - UP TO THE TIME THE PLAN ALLOWANCES HAVE BEEN REACHED.

We will add a page in the Exetel User Facilities that has a short explanation of the process and two lines:

12 noon to 12 Midnight [ ] Pay $3.00 per gb for excess [ ] "Shape Once Allowance has been reached

12 midnight to 12 Noon [ ] Pay $3.00 per gb for excess [ ] "Shape Once Allowance has been reached

The 'default' will be set as paid option for both as that is the way all current plans are set up and the way each customer contracted for them.

So no customer has to make any change to keep their current plan operating exactly the way it is now.
