Usage Meter Changes

Post by ForumAdmin » Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:10 pm

Working through the support improvement suggestions we are going to start 'trialling' a revised version of the usage meter that will update hourly.

Don't worry about any 'strange' readings you might get tomotrrow as the previous version will be maintained in case we have to 'roll back'.

Great news. It should make the excellent Vista gadget add on meter by Aaron Murgatroyd even more useful.

Hourly updates would be great, thats something that has been sorely lacking.

However, your last change of the usage page a few weeks ago killed my firefox net usage meter. Try to keep things like that in mind when you change the page code.

The firefox net usage meter still works, but you have to change the user name from the pervious one, for example 0212345678@nsw.exetel.com.au, to just "0212345678", that is remove the @ and all the comes after it.

This doesn't work for me.

Perhaps someone could tell Andrew of the proposed changes and ask him to email:

raymondl@exetel.com.au

to get whatever changes to addresses are being made?

Fantastic news, but what happened to all the cries from Exetel of "it's too resource intensive to update more than once or twice a day"???????

Posts like this: http://forum.exetel.com.au/viewtopic.ph ... 784#203784 are just one example?

My meter is not updating, at least not every hour & I have been downloading an item for the majority of today?

It will add cost to the operation; more powerful server and programming work and, more chance of something going wrong.

However, it's something we can 'afford' to do now as higher priority tasks have now been completed and the money is available for this service 'enhancement'.

Hi,

Well maybe you can put this into the users admin panel and the user can change this to what there needs are. For most users once a day is fine while others need it more often.

i.e
- Every hour
- Twice a day
- Once a day
etc

The advantage of this would be to take the stress off the resources that need to update this for everyone.

BTW my normal usage page hasn't updated in 2 days?

cheers

There is one day delay. You will see the usage before noon. Then, the usage will display to you on an hourly basis.

We will also add a new feature to the usage graph.

I think our trial of the hourly update was unsuccessful.

A sysadmin will comment.
