I have been connected for about 5 weeks and it has only been in the last 1-2,3 weeks that I have started getting poor download speeds.

Am in Rockingham on a 1.5 MB connection with the following test result (which is the same for the past few days):

Broadband Speed Test Results

Test run on 06/05/2008 @ 12:18 AM

Mirror: Exetel
Data: 3 MB
Test Time: 92.75 secs

Your line speed is 264 kbps (0.26 Mbps).
Your download speed is 33 KB/s (0.03 MB/s).

I have tried from 1 desktop PC with 3 WinXP Partition installs, 1 WinXP laptop and 1 MacBook. I have disconnected everything and tried both LAN and wireless connections.

Your download speed is 12 KB/s (0.01 MB/s)

fun...

Rifgt now, while I don't doubt what you are saying, I can see no congestion on the ADSL1 link to Optus that carries Perth traffic.

Log a fault and your line will be checked.

If your line is OK and we see no fault in any part of the network that we control then we are left with Optus back haul issues that we will never be able to address.

We will eliminate that as a future possbilty by activating a Perth PoP late this month but at the moment we have no ability to address such an issue if that is the cause.
OK - will open ticket; it is pretty bad at the moment. The Perth PoP is well ahead of schedule, then? Excellent.

As far as we know the Perth PoP is scheduled to be activated at the end of this month.

Personally, I've never known Telstra deliver a major circuit on time.

Also as I posted this eleswhere on these forums just because it will be "Activated this month" I got the latest e newsletter from Exetel saying
We will migrate all current ADSL1 users in these States and the NT to the new PoPs over the next six months and any new customer will be connected to the new PoP as they apply.
6 Months for some of us to be migrated to the PoP.

looks like i will be churning if i have to wait, but new customers get first, do we get a discount for the slow speeds.

Must agree with 100brian,

Our speeds are at best like a 512kbps plan so I feel that to compensate us we should either get a credit on our next bill or extra downloads.

ie: $40/month for 1500k plan for 2GB should at least get 8GB peak or a $5 credit, or better.

This may help to keep some of Exetels customers.

I agree also. I'm not happy that the first exetel response here was to chew me out for asking for help (yes, I shouldn't have used capitals, but frustration is a bitch). I didn't feel the need to open a fault, as everyone else here (in this thread, which earlier by "most of us" is what I meant) seems to be having the same issue, and opening the fault is not resolving it. If we do need to wait for this Perth PoP thing, we should be compensated as we're all getting a similar speed no matter whether we're paying for a 1.5mb plan or an 8mb. $80 for an entire month (and apparently maybe longer) at this speed is not worth it. I have 30 days left on my contract, and after this will be seriously looking at another ISP...

Exetel, any advice on how to resume to my normal speed?
I've asked a senior engineer to see if he can help you.

Your ping and trace look quite normal to me.

Thankyou JamesD,

As you reported it must have been the router at fault as I now have full speed again.
