Hi, i was shaped last month and today its going horribly slow. I dont think its related to shaping however because things are going faster then when shaped ie, im downloading at around 100-150kbit/s compared to 64kbit/s when shaped. This is still however much slower then my obtainable speed.

Could there be a network issue?
I am also have the same problem. I obtainged the following reading from http://www.exetel.com.au/speed:

Your current bandwidth reading is:

701.70kbps

which means you can download at 87.71 KB/sec. from our servers.

Despite this, I am unable to stream music at 12KBps (96kbps)! Usually, this would be no problem. Downloads were also going very slow, as reported above. At first i thought I was still shaped, but the Internet appears to be somewhat faster than when I was shaped for the last day of last month. I have been a loyal Exetel customer for a long time though, so I know they will come up with a solution soon :)

Ok, now in peak. It still feels like I am shaped.
GMail took 2 minutes to load (and that's with an empty inbox).
The Exetel member facilities arent loading at all.
The only thing working acceptably are the Exetel forums.
I don't know what the problem is (can't load the MRTG graphs), but whatever it is, please fix it.

EDIT: I finally got into the user facilities and the Optus ADSL2+ graph is quite close to the top.

I did another speed test, like this mornings one in the off peak, and the results are very similar.
Slow for Exetel and slower for non-Exetel.

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 02:58 PM

Mirror: Internode
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 10.77 secs

Your line speed is 53 kbps (0.05 Mbps).
Your download speed is 7 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

Mirror: Exetel
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 0.9 secs

Your line speed is 638 kbps (0.64 Mbps).
Your download speed is 80 KB/s (0.08 MB/s).

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:00 PM

Mirror: aaNet
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 9.94 secs

Your line speed is 58 kbps (0.06 Mbps).
Your download speed is 7 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:01 PM

Mirror: iiNet
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 2.47 secs

Your line speed is 233 kbps (0.23 Mbps).
Your download speed is 29 KB/s (0.03 MB/s).

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:01 PM

Mirror: OptusNet
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 10.9 secs

Your line speed is 53 kbps (0.05 Mbps).
Your download speed is 7 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

Wow, a difference as i get to the TPG one:
Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:01 PM

Mirror: TPG
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 0.64 secs

Your line speed is 898 kbps (0.9 Mbps).
Your download speed is 112 KB/s (0.11 MB/s).

Back to slow at Westnet:

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:02 PM

Mirror: Westnet
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 12.82 secs

Your line speed is 45 kbps (0.04 Mbps).
Your download speed is 6 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:03 PM

Mirror: Soul Communications
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 9.72 secs

Your line speed is 59 kbps (0.06 Mbps).
Your download speed is 7 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:03 PM

Mirror: Exetel
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 0.57 secs

Your line speed is 1 Mbps (1002 kbps).
Your download speed is 125 KB/s (0.12 MB/s).

And finishing with an international test:
Test run on 01/06/2008 @ 03:04 PM

Mirror: Dreamhost
Data: 70 KB
Test Time: 10.39 secs

Your line speed is 55 kbps (0.06 Mbps).
Your download speed is 7 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

==============================
Analysing the results, it can be seen that the Exetel mirror is always at (relatively) high speeds, while most others, except TPG and iiNet, are below 64kbps.

And I now know why:

Verizon graph is flatlined and the Optus (backhaul) one is well above 550 mbps. The not too slow ones must've been via PIPE.

Chalk me up as another user still shaped.

Hopefully it's just a teething issue, I can understand the problems then. But if this is going to be a regular occurrence I won't be using the shaping option again (likely to the delight of Exetel :)

I went over peak allowance last month by 100MB or so and had shaping selected and I was not charged.

Great, thanks that part of the system works well.

But now I am shaped to 64k and it is the next month (I have a download meter and it is reading EXACTLY 64K downloads)

Great, This part sucks.

I realise it is the first month so all is forgiven but please fix this next month.

At the moment I have two choices be shaped for a day at least or be charged $3 extra every month.
